what engine would bolt up with minimal fuss into a Toyota TT142 Corona, a 3tgteu and w55 currently occupies the bay, im thinking a 1g-gte would be a nice cheap upgrade, but what sorta modifications will i hafta perform?

1G would probably be my pick, however, I suppose there's nothing to stop you from trying to stick in a 3SGTE (using some ST141 bits, and a fair few you'd have to make..) or even a 1JZ (doable, but getting into big/heavy territory really). You are limited only by your imagination. Oh, and budget! How much you got to spend, and what sort of result are you looking for?

umm havent deceided yet im just after something quicker, like mid 13, low 14 quarter sorta thing. 1ggte would do the trick yeah? and quite cheaply too? how much would need to modified the 1g will bolt straight upto the w55 from the 3t?>

I'd imagine not, since it would have a t-series bellhousing.
people are getting 200rwkw out of their 3t-gte - have you thought about sinking the conversion money into a revamp of the 3t?
I know some people would say it's just polishing a turd - a very old turd - but 200rwkw is impressive stuff (hell, 150rwkw in a corona will get you a 14 sec quarter)

why not just mod the 3T, a very capable engine. easier and prolly cost the same. we all saw the yellow corolla rip 190 at the treads out of a 3T at the dyno day

heres the prob, last time i priced exhaust manifold gaskets and the like they wanted like 200$nz for em cause they hafta get them from japan, so a full rebuild is gonna be a crazy price. prob in the vinicinity of $4k with forgies and thats not even starting to upgrade shit yet, the engine is tired the turbo is smokey, i have a replacement tho, but not going to do it till i get gaskets, and if i rebuild it will be with forgies
or i could just put in a 200hp 1g-gte and pull 14sec quarter miles, i just want something with a little more go that will go in relitivly easy. i belive these cars weigh in at about 1100kg so they are light, a 1ggte with the boost turned up, 230hp? would be good for mid 13's with traction?

Why not mortgage the house, put the 1G in, then do THAT up - you'll laugh at the idea of 14 second quarters then!

actually, the 1G bellhousing has the same bolt pattern to the motor as the 3TG.... so they are interchangeable
