For Those Who Have Done The 1jzgte Conversion

1. Do you guys replace the head gasket with a new one or just retorque it? If replace, what's the torque spec?
2. Do you take out the oil pan for inspection? If yes, is the old gasket reusable? If not, where can I get one?
3. Does the 2jzgte timing belt work on the 1jzgte? If not, where can I get one?
4. What else are there that may need to be checked and change?
Thanks

We used a half-cut for our conversion.
We didn't replace the timing belt but should have. It is now almost impossible to do when fitted in the car.
As the 2JZ is almost 30mm taller I assume that the timing belts are different.
I had the sump off as I had to make a complete new unit. I used silicone type sealant instead of a gasket. It hasn't leaked so far in 6 months.
I guess we were lucky - our engine has been fine. There were no problems with it at all.

1J's do not suffer the same head gasket problems as the 7M engines. You do not need to touch the engine in this regard.

Have any of you guys/girls done a timing belt change? If yes, then where can I get one from?
What about the head torque? I'm going to do some heavy BOOSTING on mine and want to make sure the head is tighten down real good.

As mentioned by Grant, the JZ engines do not suffer from head gasket problems like the 7M's. Leave the head studs alone.

Timing belt part # 13568-46010. That is a genuine toyota timing belt.
Timing belt replacement is best done when the engine is out of the car. It gives you room to get a impact gun onto the crank bolt (trust you will need it!!!!).
Just finished a 1jz into 1986.5 MA70 so everything is still very fresh in my memory.

What do you mean by 'serious boosting'? You wont have a problem with the head ..period. At big boost you will have a problem with the turbos though.
