coloured dials

Hi guys,
Kinda sick of the greeny colour of my dials on my mkIII supra (86) and thought about changing them to blue. Couple of questions tho.
Is there any easy way to get to the globes, do I have to take the whole dash out or is there an easier way. Also does anybody have any diagrams or anything as to where all the screws are?
Also, trying to decide between blue LEDs or blue globes. Obviously the LEDs are gonna be brighter, but I dont know. Any thoughts on this? Or better yet, has anybody done it and got any tips/advice??
Thanks in advance,
Darcangel

LED's are probably the easiest way to go, bright and dont blow like globes. You'd ned some resitors to drop the 12V down to 3V or whatever the LED needed, your local Dickies or Jaycar can help you out. I'd also be impressed if you found a blue globe small enough to fit. I'm not sure how you'd go about getting it in there though

The tech manuals for your car can be found here:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/techtips.html
Taking the instrument panel out is fairly straightforward, you don't need to take the whole dash out. The globes are easy to replace, but from memory there is some green plastic film that adds to the illuminated dash and some globes are clear.
I though of doing this myself but it might affect the colour/visibility of your instrument needles etc so I couldn't be bothered.
Good Luck,
Caelum

Where did you get the white dials from?
Could you just buy them for your car, or did you get them made?
I want to change mine, except being a newer car, the dials are all together, so I'd have to do the fuel & temp ones as well, & can't get anything off the shelf.

I made my ones.. out of white perspex and then got a sign writer to make a stensil and I then painted the numbers and removed the stensil.

What do you mean, you made the stencil & then painted the numbers?
You made a stencil of your existing, & then had the signwriter make that?
I'm guessing to take the existing dials & make a negative image with the numbers in black & the rest clear as a sticker over the perspex?

if you just want to change the globes, the little green condoms come off and you can replace them with blue ones, autometer makes them but there a bit expensive for tiny bits of rubber, i put them in my ae86, and it looks ok, but the blue is a bit washed out.
or if you cheap, the newer shape magnas came with the bulbs with the condoms on them already go to the wreckers and rip out a couple it will all fit up nicely.
lastly, most rice markets, sell 'blue interior lights' which is basically the same as the dash bulb but its blue and might be rated higher, i would of tried these but they were expensive at the time.
and lastly again, the golfs have a really nice blue if you can find one of them at the wreckers but i dunno if they use coloured bulbs, vacum flourencent stuff or possibly EL plate, have to look into it

Bugman, very impressed was thinking of doing similar..
when in use, do you notice the bright spots around the edges, or do they just show up a lot more in the photo??
(i was thinking of using red LED's near redline tho

I have globes in my car that cycle through 7 colors. Pretty pansy i know - but my kids love them
You can get them for blade globes (dash) too.. I assume it would be pretty distracting.

you can also colour lamps with paint designed to go on light-bulbs and glass - you can buy it from art supplies store - it will eventually fade but only after significant use.
you might have seen those coloured light bulbs at craft markets and hippie shops - same stuff.
It is expensive paint so you could use nearly any translucent paint that dries on a hard surfce (like glass or metal).
