Damien

We have a VL with 1JZGTE 5 spd manual in the family. It has awesome performance. Well worth the conversion.

I did the complete conversion myself so know all the problems.

The worst problem is the sump and engine mounts. After they were solved the rest just took time.

We were lucky and found a manual 1JZ with R154 gearbox. It is a very strong and very large gearbox - much larger than the VL box.

The wiring was a bit tricky but ended up with everything working. The tacho and speedo work fine off the 1JZ wiring.

Have just converted to Microtech computer but that is because of chasing more power - nothing was wrong with the Toyota system.

hey how did you go with the exhaust and the plenum on oppisite (sp?) sides? the gearbox are very strong and have a price tag to match Mad but i think i'll just get the auto for now. i ran it passed the minister of finace (girlfriend) and she is ok with the idea.

so what did you do with the sump? do you have any pics i could look at? sorry for the bother but i'm really need the insight.

thanks for all the help.

Graham,

Is that the new MTX12? Are you running it off the standard igniter? Are you happy with it?

You will need the chaser sump as it has the front oriented pan.(Same as aristo/supra 2j sump???)

How does the microtech perform on the 1J, graham??

Hi Grant & Pete

Yes, we are still playing with the 1JZ. What an amazing engine.

The Microtech is LTX12 version and direct fires the coils. I have wired the unit by splicing into the Toyota harness. We can switch betweem computers. We had to replace the injectors with a new harness as the 1JZ is multi fire and the LTX is sequential fire. The easiest way was to make a second harness for the plugs and leave the old harness intake.

Brent is still learning how to program. It is the laptop version where he can hook his laptop into the Microtech and use it for data logging. We only installed it today so he is now out and about driving around and adjusting it on the run.

Will let you know the final outcome. At least it runs - that was my part to complete all the wiring and get it to start. Now its up to Brent and the laptop to finish it.

Damien

I have photos of the sump but haven't scanned them into the computer yet. I also have three films waiting for development that have many photos of the conversion on them. When I get them developed I can scan them in and write a tech article.

The fuel lines also had to be swapped over to the opposite side. The exhaust wasn't a problem - it just did a dogleg over to hook up to the existing system. Since them we have replaced the complete exhaust with a 3.5" twin pipe system - works well.

Does the new microtech have closed loop??

Is Brent using his A/F gauge to tune the car?? or did you guys purchase a proper tuning module??

When he gets a power tune, tell us the numbers.

I am ready to buy an ECU, but i am waiting for a mate to get his funds together, maybe save some $$$

Brent is using the laptop to tune it. It has approx 25 pages of gauges and settings. The A/F is reading from the O2 sensor so is only as accurate as it is. The screens look quite impressive as all data is shown live on the screen.

I will have to read his manual to find out if it is closed loop. There were about twenty wires to hook up the complete unit. It controls the fuel pump as well.

I assume that it will have to go on the dyno to finish it off.

thanks for the info. i'm thinking bout getting two of the engines as well, one with the manual gearbox and try to do a deal to get the manual halfcut and the engine.

those photo's would be great but when ever you get round to it.
well i was going to change the fuel pump anyway so running new fuel lines won't be to much of a hassle.let us know how the microtech goes with the engine as i'm goingt o get an aftermarket managment aswell.

thank you all for you help.
