To be legal, the rolling diameter of your tyres must be close to the size of the factory-specified tyres. By my rough calculations, your tyres are about 50mm oversize which AFAIK isn't legal.
The other issue is you cannot alter the vehicle's original track width by too much (about 25mm is the limit I think), so if your new rims have a different offset that might be taking you into illegal territory.

i'm pretty sure that in many states the fact you're 3 inches bigger in diameter will kill you, the width and actual rolling size is often overlooked as the rim diameter is a quicker way for them to estimate it. or maybe some of the roadworthy guys actually think it's the rim that can't be more than 30mm or whatever the limit is, and not the actual rolling diameter

well if they are 16" rims they should only have a profile of 40/45. Not 50!. And if they are 16 then why is the width only 195? I would of thought a 16x7" was the smallest width available on 16" rims, with a 7" width, it should be around the 205 mark. I'm not sure what the QLD RWC rules are. But down here in VIC if the car was made B4 1985 than it can have what ever size wheels it wants. lol. Otherwise it would be a limit of 2" larger in Diameter, and 1" larger in width. With what I was saying above about the recommended profile, the current rolling diameter of your current 195/50/16 will be larger than ti should. ie, my TA22 currently has 175/75/13, I will be going up to 205/45/16 or 205/40/16 have to re-check my figures. Hope this helps.
Cheers

For Victorian owners I'd strongly recommend checking Vicroads Standards Information (VSI) articles 8 (modifications) and 26 (roadworthiness) as available for download from the Vicroads website.
Hay Jacob who said that pre-85 could have any size? In any case, I think you're right about the diameters you've specified for the 16".

The rolling diameters of the 175x75x13 and 195x50x16 tyres are less than 2% different so the issue must be rim diameter. (The 205x45x16 is an almost perfect match.) If I recall correctly, in NSW you can only legally go to a rim 1" bigger than the largest rim that was fitted to the car as standard and a track 1" wider than standard. This is why a lot of people keep a set of stockies just in case they need them for rego. So you need to check the rules with your Qld traffic authority - they should have a website you can go to.
