Buzzing in Exhaust

Hey,
I'm looking at buying a ae82 twincam hatch which a mate of mine owns. There was a problem in the exhaust though:
Its hard to explain, but at revs at around 3500-4500 there is a buzzing sound coming from the exhaust, and once TVIS kicks in it dissapears, initially I thought it could be just something vibrating because it seems there are more vibrations at lower revs, do u have any ideas what it could be??
Could it be the CAT? or maybe the muffler!
Its just steel exhaust and pipe etc!

Yep, sounds like a loose or broken baffle or heat shield. If it is the baffle, don't wait till it blocks the flow to really feel the back pressure problems!

erm.... i hate to add this in, but 4ag's have this special little characteristic of "buzzing" from around 3000rpm upwards.
I have a smallport 100kw in my rolla, and with its brand new exhaust it buzzes from 3000rpm to about 6000rpm. Note i have no TVIS of course.
Unless its obnoxiously bad, its normal.
