new diff Sun, 30 November 2003 11:36 Go to next message

i got my car back on sat morning, after having the turbo replaced cause i blew it up. i only had the car 1 day, and the diff decides 2 give up. so im after sum ideas on what diff 2 put in the car. its a 74 TA 22, and the diff needs 2 stand up to 210 rwkw. im thinking of putting a standard one back in just 2 get me around till i can find a new one, seeing as though the car is off the road more than it is on atm.

use a hilux diff or a borg warner jobbie - preffered LSD..

I think Cool1 has a borg warner - but a non LSD for grabs ..

Hilux is strong enough - and its been covered a few times in the tech section on the install process

How wide is the ta22 rear ? . And how hard are you driving it .
That sr torque is great at braking them isn't it . You getting wheelspin at 130ish with 210 rwkw or does the extra weight of the celica over a sprinter help that .

improved86. ta22 lighter than ae86 methinks
adam, i'd look at a borg warner 78 series diff (VL onwards) shortened with EITHER kaaz LSD or B/W LSD.
the kaaz is the better bet tho - about $1700 - meridian motorsport will hook you up PM me if you wanna know a bit more

fucking great color too aye that ta22 same as mine (well same after respray - using GREY primer instead of the ghey RED) Smile

All very good but what is the size across from disc to disc ? You could use a crown housing with a modified ma61 centre or tarago etc or skyline r31 , the borg warner is expensive , if you cannot find a worn centre , I was quoted $650 for the 3.9 gear set then had to by the carrier , so i went away from that idea , and the hilux is a heavy unit , could be ok in a ta22 , but you stuff weight split on a ae86 even with extra kg's in the front , And once again expensive . You should be able to make yourself a diff to handle the sr20 power of 220kw with 280mmish rear disc lsd ford 9" size axles from around $1000 depending on the gearing you want to fit , i have the a 3.89 ,for the correct speedo gearing on the road but can fit a 3.7 4.11 4.44 in car without removing the diff .

GRRRRRRR Mad , and there goes another diff, and i was trying to be careful. i guess its time for a stronger one, anyone know any decent places where i can get it done, around ringwood or surrounding areas. a rough price would be helpful aswell..
