driftboy: what has made you decide that you want a sprinter...what has led you to believe these are driftable?
they arent the best cars to learn how to drift in...your better off buying a silvia....but if u do buy one learn how to drive it properly before you even think of "drifting"

why the hell are people telling him to buy a silvia to drift in instead of a sprinter?!?!
if you crash a sprinter its not too bad because they are relatively cheap (especially if it is a 4ac sprinter) but if you crash a silvia, you're stuffed, thats $8k-$10k. down the drain!
my advice is to get a sprinter (aus-spec) that has had a 4age or 4agze conversion done to it and drift the hell out of it (i think thats what you were originally looking for anyway )
ps: dont drift a trueno either (unless you are really good and wont crash it) we can spare another aus-spec levin not a JDM trueno

driftae86: We say a silvia because in stock form, the S13 is simply a better drift machine.
They come from a more sporty heritage, i.e. suspension can take the punishment, and is more suited for caning. They tend to oversteer with a bit of lowering. LSDs are common, cheap and plentiful. Turbo torque kicks ass for powerovers and feinting.
when you are looking at a sprinter, you'll need the engine conversion. A disc brake LSD rear end. Sway bars, and possibly some re-enforcement. All in all, roughly about the same price as a silvia, but for an older, underpowered car.
Or you could simply just buy a standard sprinter with a 4age for about 5-6k, and try drift in that.
Even though it can be done, I think it's stupid doing it without an LSD rear end (whats the point when you have to slow down heaps to regain traction?). And when you do get a little enthusiastic, you'll probably ending up the sprinter around a poll.
rock on.

At the end of the day, the difference between a jap spec trueno, and an Aus spec levin is some Sheet metal at the front. A classier interior. An LSD rear, a close ratio gear box, and a 4age engine (and some different fluids bottles, bits and bobs etc...).
Even if you totally write off a JDM trueno, you can rebirth the thing in an AUS Spec shell to be EXACTLY the same. (provided you can find the trueno front panels you've smashed
A lot of people are turned off by the Aus Spec vehicle plate on the bulkhead.. But Don't be. A lot of people have a thing against trueno nosed sprinters... Claiming that they are not 'genuine'.. But suprise suprise, they are no different. There is no where on the Chassis plate that says 'trueno' or levin.
A very good mate of mine actually transferred all the parts from a beat out JDM GTAPEX coupe onto a clean aus spec hatch. everything fitted *perfectly*. Hole for hole(including power steering, climate control!!!). Now, with the exception of the Aus spec vehicle plate on the bulkhead, you simply cannot tell it's Aus Spec.. Is this inferior to a cheapass rusted JDm vehicle under the 10k mark??

i know a bit about silvias as my brother has one and i know they are sick to drift. choosing which car to drift in all comes down to your budget. if you can afford a silvia to drift, get a silvia. if you can only afford a sprinter, get a sprinter.
its funny you say your friend transferred all the stuff from a JDM trueno into an aus-spec. my friend has done exactly the same thing
you can drift almost anything, depending on how brave or how big your balls are

Yeah, it makes more sense to have a CLEAN aus spec ae86 that is in everyway like a jap spec, then having a genuine JDM vehicle that's got an absolutely shit chassis.
hehehe... that JDM coupe is now probably rusting in a paddock .

or do what i have done
after writing 1 s13 off and losin my balls in my other 2 s13,from fear of doin it again
i have brought myself a ae71 rolla,and fitted a ca18det with some fruit.
best part is it goes harder than a s13 and if i crash it i can get a new shell for FUK ALL.
when i get my diff and bakes on will owe me about $4000.
there awsome to slide with that sort of power, and not scared to pull some dumb 3rd gear slides now coz if i crash it i can get a new shell and its fixed cheaply
food for thought
cheers matt

thats probably the best advice. the AE71 (or KE70) have an almost identical chassis to an AE86 so would be just as suitable for drift. personally i would go the KE70 simply because you can pic parts up for nothing for them, pannels are dirt cheap unlike sprinters but drive pretty much the same.
