I'm starting to organise fitting of a 7M intercooler into the front of my car.
Problem is that most of it will be blocked by the standard bumper which has a central piece the size of a Japanese number plate running up through the middle.
I want to remove this bit & relocate the number plate to the bottom of the bar.
How do I reinforce the opening now that its going to be full width?
Is there something I can put in there to give back some strength? I would prefer to stay away from the rice look with mesh. I also think the mesh would block a fair bit of airflow too which is critical for my radiator now that its going to have something else in the way.
Just jam a piece of steel/alloy bar in there and paint it silver/blue/whatever so it's not easily visible. It will be plenty strong enough and won't block much airflow.
Problem is I've already got the factory "cross" grills in that lower part on each side.
Probably would have to removed them too.
What would be the best way to secure the pieces to the bumper?
I'm not going to putting that engine in, at least not for a long time. The budget doesn't allow it at this stage (The house is taking preference).
But in the meantime I want to take the turbo diesel as far as it will go.
Currently has no intercooler & is already running 12psi, which I want to increase to about 18.
The engine is setup backwards to the petrol ones.
ie exhaust is on firewall side with a highmount turbo & inlet manifold is on the front.
