Rush $650 1JZ dump pipes - anyone tried?

Scroll down a bit and have a look. This is at least half the cost of getting a custom set made up. Has anyone tried these? Know how they flow or how they are constructed?
Sounds VERY tempting!

The owner of Rush Imports and some people who have his dump pipes can be found on the Soarer Forums.

Actually... I know the guy who makes them. I have detailed photos of the dumps. I'll dig them up tonight and post them.

Norbs,
Have a look at Martin Doonan's pipes he made up in the recent HPI 1JZ tuner's guide. Bloody work of art and I can see why it would be over the $1.5K mark. It's just that, at that price, it's just not a good value for money mod.
But if you reckon you could do better/cheaper, I'm all ears!

Mmmmmm. Looks good to me. And at that price, it would be a reasonable power-up if I intend to stick with the factory snails. Has anyone used this brand? Shouldn't there be an extra bit of the internal wastegate to go into?

Looks nice, but the factory twins will overboost anyway with pipes like that... hardly good value for money when you think about it. $650 to make my car hit boost cut sooner! LOL

I think the idea is that reduced back pressure keeps ceramic turbines healthier at high boost longer. Just remove boost cut, and set your bleed valve to around 1 to 1.2 bar and prepare for take off!
I got some more pics from the manufacturer and it looks good. Not as good as some I've seen, but worth the money. Collects into a 3" front pipe.
I know others with custom y pipes have claimed an extra 20rwkw up top and longer lasting turbines at high boost. If I can suck up to Santa, I may give 'em a go.

you would have to weigh up the relatively small costs of getting these dump pipes or going the whole hog and getting a larger single turbo. As far as i know the only bolt on upgrades are those hybrid ones and they are similar price to a large single anyway.
So, if you want 250rwkw or less, get intercooler, exhaust, dump pipes (maybe boost controller if you need it)
more than that, big turbo, exhaust manifold, inlet manifold, injectors, computer, cam gears etc.(clutch,diff. maybe upgrade for the above also)
So in effect, $650 isn't really all that much money when you look at the other possibilities and also the results that 1jz cars have had with the twin dumps.

Yeah, a reliable and long-life 230ish rwkw will do me just fine .
Neil, who makes 'em, sent me some more photos of the port work on the collectors and they do look good!

Or Unique Autosport sell a set of twin dumps for $395. Look closer to the stock unites without turbo's exhaust colliding into each other and without seperate wastegate pipes. Good value, I guess.

As fancy as those pipes look, they're still just a few pieces of steel tube welded together. But I guess if they can sell 'em for $650, good on 'em!

I would think that, much like making a custom turbo manifold, it's the design and welding of all the mandrel bends into place to allow two turbos & wastegates to flow freely that takes the labour time and cost. It's not the two steel tubes but the flanges off the two turbos that require all the bends & curves. Really good custom 1JZ y pipes go in excess of $1,500.
Another example can be found here: http://home.kooee.com.au/celicamad/y_section_modif ication.htm

Dude, you should go to an exhaust shop and watch how quickly these guys can knock up something like that. And no, it's NOTHING like making a custom manifold. The design of those pipes is really quite simple.
The only reason they're selling them for $650 (or $1500 or whatever) is because people are willing to pay that much. Like I said, good on 'em.

I got quoted $500 for the pair from a zorst shop out of mild steel. I ended up making my own out of stainless, im not an experienced fabricator but they took me a shitload of time to make. If anyone is interested in having a look at my set ill email the pics, or if anyone wants to host them i can put them up here.
I dont know what i would have got exactly for the $500, but $650 doesnt seem overly expensive. Will most exhaust shops include in the price taking all that crap off to get in there?

BTW what is the big vaccum diaphram on the rear turbo intake pipe in those pics? My 1JZ has a plate blocking off there.

Since that's where the bov vents too, from the turbo outlet.

Can someone please post a pic of the standard blow off system? As i mentioned my engine came with a plate blocking that diaphram off, and no BOV. I had to weld a plate over the stork and hole where the original sat. Looks like my import engine may have had an aftermarket BOV on, that was removed?

The pics at the top of this very thread clearly depict a 1JZ with a stock BOV attached (ie the big diaphragm thing you pointed out). If yours has been removed and blanked off then yes, your engine probably had an aftermarket BOV fitted at some point. You'd be wise to source some sort of BOV, either a stock one or aftermarket, if you're concerned about the longevity of your turbos.

$1500 for a set of dump pipes,
"tell him his dreammin"
my complete custom exhaust manifold which takes 40 hours and has ten times the amount of bends in it cost less than that,
the complete system when i had the standard twins cost less than that,
i made 210 rear wheel kilowatt with a standard auto box, standard injectors, standard computer,15psi boost with a 3:9 diff with 18inch rims
i would like to see how many poofteinths of a kilowatt these $1500 items get you. i bet there nice and shiny
