Hiyas!
I'm going to look at a 5speed this arvo, its supposedly an R154, the guy selling it mistook it for a w58 which is what he needs.
How do identify this box so i know its an R154... does it have R154 stamped on it or is there something else i can look for?
Thanks
- Russ

R154 for $550? Dreamin'!
I'll bet money they're actually W58's. Wreckers are hopeless with these sorts of things; trust me, I've been burned plenty of times by the dumb fuckers talking about shit they just don't understand.

Yeah, I've done that before
"You got any Supra 5spds?"
"Yeah, we got one"
"Do you know what bellhousing its got on it?"
"Nah sorry"
"OK, be there in hour or so"
One hour later I arrive, and the fucking bellhousing has got 21R-C stamped on it

Norbie: Yeah i know wreckers are usually pretty hopeless, ive been screwed around by plenty of them too, but this guy seems to know what he is talking about. He says the 7mgte are cheap as there is not much demand for them. On the other hand he will charge $1000+ for a 1JZ box as there is alot of demand for them due to the large number of JZZ and JZA auto imports. Basically it's the bellhousing that slaps another $500+ onto the cost. I have never gone and personally identified one of these boxes, there is a good chance they are, as he said "7mgte R154 5 speed". I was going to get one but decided to just stick with my R151f instead, to make the R154 hook up to my transfer i would have hade to cannibalise the R151f.
CrUZsida: There is also a R154 being advertised in yesterdays Quokka for $550, might be worth a look!!!

borrow a w55/7/8 to take with you and line up side by side, if you dont have a comparison a 'so called' R154 (w58) can seem to be larger than it actually is.

When viewed from the side, the W58 has three horizontal ribs along the case. The R154 has four horizontal ribs along the case. Easy.
