Charge light coming on with ignition off - RA23

Sometimes the CHG (charge) light comes on in my ra23 when the car is totally off, it nearly drains my battery flat over night.
Is it the alternator or what?

hmm strange one, i get te same light coming on at random in mine but i know its not a problem as i have a voltmeter and current meter so i know everything is ok and a gentle tap to the screen usualy turns the light off but if it doesn't you could try disconnecting the engine fuse i think thats the fuse which runs those lights, if it isn't try disconnecting other fuses until it turns off, should stop you from getting into trouble from a flat battery.

i'd be having a look at your regulator (little black box on side guard near battery) - this can be tested (or, even try unplugging it overnight?)

I had the exact same problem in my RA28. It was the altinator.

but if it was the alternator then why would it be on even when the ignition is off?

i had this problem once. I popped the hood and plugged my old style coil regulator in and it still kept happening.. tapped a few things with a shifter put the newer reg back in and it worked fine since..

The alternator indicator is connected from 12v ever-on to the "IND" terminal on your alternator. IF this internal reg is faulty,ie transistors or diodes leaky the light comes on.I suggest you either replace the alternator itself or get it repaired by an auto-elec before it lets you down.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I am having this exact problem right now. However the car is a KE25 mostly standard.
At first i replaced the regulator but unless i replaced it with another broken one, the problem remains.
How can it be a problem with the alternator if the alternator is still charging my battery strongly?
If it wasn't raining I would be out checking continuity of the wires..

i had this is my old RA23 - was alternator (replacing external regulator did nothing) and dodgy earth (fixed with new cable from battery, cleaned up ground spot and cleaned strap from chassis to engine).
Also, check that the cables connecting to the alternator are in good nick - i had a plug dissintegrate from loose/arcing connectors.
seeing as yours is internal regulator, i think it's time for exchange unit...

Mine is external reg.. but just to follow up, I replaced the alternator and it is all fine.
