Hi all Im looking around for the do's and donts of turboing a 4age 100kw version. I know its easier to use a gze but I already have the age and I want it to be different. Biggest hassles at the moment are what size turbo, what comp ratio to run and how to acheive it, and what do i need to do with the computer to run boost?
Any help with this peoples would be great. Links to websites, forums etc. Anybody who has done this would be of great help.
Cheers Sean

Well, personally my advice would be to sell your engine that you have while its still in good order. You could fit a smallish turbo to it, run a couple of PSI boost and probably get away with it for a little while if the tuning was good, but its gonna be short of its potential. If you like to rebuild the engine with beefier rods, better low-comp pistons, and anything else, well then theres nothing wrong with it, but why do that when you can buy a 4agze in reasonable order so much cheaper? If you just shove a turbo on your present engine, and leave it with a stock computer, injectors, etc., it's going to be a broken mess in a veeery short time.
I paid $650 for my 4agze, in perfectly good order. As a bonus it comes with larger (365cc) injectors, DFI coils, and a few other widgets. You should be able to sell your existing engine, along with computer and loom, for a reasonable amount, and have something to begin with.
Remember, doing something half-arsed the first time around costs twice as much when you've gotta do it the 2nd time around. If you want to know anything specific, I might be able to help you out too.
BTW, by your name/car/location, are you the guy that bought marks old car by any chance?

Ive never really understood the desire for people 'to be different' even when it flys in the complete opposite direction of sense, reason and cost effectiveness.
That said,
You are in for a pain in the arse trying to turbo the 100kw N/A 4AGE. the following needs to be done to build the engine you want.
- Rebuild with strength and lower compression - Different injectors - Different management
All of which when bought seperate and when the rebuild work is done will have left you with a large smoking hole where your wallet used to be.
As said earlier, you could run a couple of measly pounds of boost with the standard engine. but you'll still need different management and probably different injectors.
In all seriousness, swap it for a 4AGZE before you break it and go from there. Even the stock 4AGZE management and injectors can handle 14 odd psi. Then you'll have an engine that is strong, capable, reliable and packs some grunt.
You can even sell of the SuperCharger and recoup a nice portion of the cost.
I also bought my complete 4AGZE for a mere $650, take away the cost of selling the following: (approximate prices)
- Supercharger $300 - Steering pump $ 40 - Alternator $ 40
And mine will only end up costing $270, add $200 worth of turbo, $100 of RWD inlet and $300 of custom intercooler and im set.
