Hey Ed, I know its a hassle, but would you be prepared to separate the shifter housing & stick if there's not much interest in the box? It is the 20" shifter position on the MA61 isn't it?
Cheers
Phil

After a quick inspection of my box, it seems that its not such a simple swap for the shifter position anyway. Looks like the cast steel linkage that connects the gearstick to the actuator rod needs to be exchanged also, which means the rod has to be removed from its position in the box.... maybe i'll just hack my trans tunnel after all.
Please tell me i'm wrong and its just a simple swap!
Cheers
Phil

The rod doesn't have to be removed, but the extension housing does. So the box has to be out of the car, so if it is atm, now's the best time to do it.

errr, actually joel, the shift selector fork does probably have to come out... id be betting that the shift selector yoke that sits on the shaft is different (to accomodate the different housing/pivot position).
you need to do this on mkiv-mkii housing swaps, and id imagine this would be very similar

I know you have to change the yoke thing that sits on the shaft, but I was under the impression that that just required the rear extension housing to be unbolted & slid back a few inches, just enough to slide the old yoke off & the new one on.
It'd better not be much harder than that, I'm gonna be doing it soon!

yeah, as long as the selector yoke actually bolts into the same hole on the shaft as the original one... otherwise, the shaft has to come out, and you have to drill and tap a new mounting hole in the shaft...
and the difference between 'sliding back' and totally disassembled rear housing is only a few mm anyway!

Oooh, shit hey, I hope I don't have to go through that with mine.....
Yeah, but sliding it back a few inches sounds so much easier than totally disassembling.

Nah, that little keyhole is the same
All you need to change it is the top bit that the shifter bolts into, and the bottom bit that the base of the shifter sits in
I know, I done twice (its the same on a w40-50 swap too)

Good! So it is just a matter of sliding back the rear housing then?

yep
honestly, 'sliding the rear housing back' is literally mm's from 'rear housing comes off'...
anyway...
