Need help with my 86 Sat, 06 December 2003 23:53 Go to next message
Hi guys this is my first post.
I just bought my 1985 corolla gts, i need some help with getting my car to roadworthy (I'm in melbourne).
Firstly i discovered an exhaust leak at a joint after the CAT i haven't yet jacked the car up but I'm sure i this would be easily fixed (would this problem cause the engine light to come on?).

The 1 of the wheel mount struts bolts, whatever you call em from each side of the front are cut off, the front wheels are in held by 3 lug nuts, what will i need to by to fix this.

OK another problem I'm having is that I'm able to shift into gears without disengaging the clutch, after i noticed this problem i didn't try and drive it. I'm new with cars i read a few techs you guys have on this forum but i cant seem to find what the problem could be. (BTW its a trd short shifter)

Well they're the 3 main problems i got right now, also would to get a RWC in Victoria can a car have a roll cage? (the dash hasn't been cut nor has any of the chassis, it's a bolt on) another thing....The front panels sides are being supported with wires (just the sides).

Thank you guys.
Daniel Chatenfeld

first of all, its not called a gts here, (unless your car is an imported/converted american model) that is a yankieland term AFAIK, club4AG is an american based site.

as for the wheel studs, you can replace these yourself, but getting a mechanic to do it would be easier, they need to be hammered out and replaced, i think it is a fairly straight forward job.

the shifting into gears without using the clutch isnt a problem, i can do that when i wan to, just use the clutch more often.

NFI about the cage,

good luck

Just take the car to your local mechanic... They will be able to fix the problems and give you a RWC!

Also it is not illegal/unroadworthy to have a roll cage in a car. But there are guidelines which are listed on the vicroads website... www.vicroads.gov.au

i had a half cage. they wouldnt let me keep it in the car AND have rear seat. t was either the back seat OR the cage. if its a fullcage, then it needs to be padded where the people come in contact with the cage (30cm movement room from belted seating position).

gaskets for exhaust should be about 30 bucks from repco/toyota Smile
