18rc head onto 18rgu block

Ive got a spare 18rgu block that i was using for parts and was just wondering if i could put an 18rc head onto it just for something to do. Would it make it higher compression then a standard 18rc engine or would it be worse. Is it possible as i have all the bits here doing nothing. Any help appreciated
Thanks

Blocks are the same between the two, pistons are different, along with other sundry items (top timing chain, oil pump, timing chain covers, ...). You may run into valve/piston interference problems- this is where the plasticine comes in handy to check for clearance!

the difference in pistons is the 18rgu pistons are domed on top arent they. so basically if i put an 18rc head on there with be less room in the chamber so higher compression wouldnt there?

from memory, the 18R chamber in the head does not cover the entire piston area - i think there are a few tight squish areas away from the valves - so do some measuring before bolting head to block.
Even if piston/head don't hit, using uneven squish areas to lift compression ratio tends to increase detonation/pinging.
also, the whole front of the engine is different - timing cover, timing chains, dummy (half shft) to run dizzi & oil pump, water pump, etc are different between 18RG and 18RC
Would be easier/safer/cheaper to find an 18RG head, give it a quick-and-dirty reco and bolt it up. You'll get better breathing, cooling, power etc than the 18R.

Did really wanna spend money on it. was just gonna fix it up and hope maybe it had better compression and put it in my fathers car as he only has a crappy 2s-c in a sa63 celica.

What makes you think an 18R-C is going to be any better than a 2S-C?

Clearly you don't have much experience with 18R-C's.

I was only condiering it as just a project for something to do if it would give me higher comp then a standard 18rc.

If anything the 2S-C is probably better than the 18R-C...its just no one is silly enough to waste money on them!

almost too heavy for TWO men to lift and throw overboard - although that IS what should be done to them.
Darn 18R-C's.
