Yeah man the gen2 3SGE came out in SW20 ?(I think) MR2s, so if it's the original engine (ie never replaced) from your ST162 it is more than likley a gen1. Some pics may be able to clear things up thanks.

Hey there,
Definatly interested in the motor, i blew my gen 1 motor and am looking to swap it over for a gen 2 motor. So that engine was already in there when you bought the car? how do you know its a gen 2 for sure?
It runs well? do you know what year the engine was made?
cheers

sorry for the confusion guys, Gen 1 it is. it was in a friends celica st162 87 or 88 i think and he has put a 3S-GTE in.
the only catch is the distributor has been taken off, i've put it back on but it may be 180degrees out in timing.

I know it was an old post, but just wanted some comparo.
Have you left the brotherhood, or moved to the bigger brother supra?
I just missed out on an same model Celica, plus same colour, that was out of rego, body needed work but engine A1. Price was $500ono. It was just what I needed.
I am driving a late model hatch (mazda astina - the ugly one 2000) while I get my Celica fixed.
The mechanic told me that pistons 1 & 2 might be moving independantly of pistons 3 & 4. He thinks that my crank has sheared. (or something like that)
If the engine idles, it sounds fine, but if its revved to a few thousand (goes out of sync) it makes a terrible noise, like a box of pots and pans spilling down some concrete stairs.
Thats why I need a replacement engine. The car also needs full paint and new wheels, so my budget is limited.
Thanks for the reply.
