You can't clean them without specialised equipment, and if you attempt to do so with a toothbrush you'll totally root them! Leave it to the pros; it's not that expensive to get done.

My injected car used to take a couple of seconds to start, was never hapyy with it. Pulled the injectors to be cleaned, and found that they all leaked fuel, resulting in low pressure behind them. The engine had to crank (to activate the fuel pump), which then built the pressure up behind them, which once done allowed the car to start effectively. Once they were ultrasonically cleaned, they never leaked, and my car now starts on first crank everytime.

hummm,
http://www.lubemobile.com.au/services.php
Says they do some type of de-carbonising purge of the whole system which "Guaranteed to clean the injectors like new."
So I don't think they ultrasonicly clean them...
You guys think I should get him to pull one out and show me it's cleaned before he tottles off in his mobile?

Ask questions before you hand them over, some shops just pulse them with a cleaning solution, while others replace filters, seals, o rings, and still have them sonically cleaned before doing so.
Another easy tuning tip I've used regularly is to remove the cold start injector, spray it with carby cleaner to remove residue, and replace, this sometimes helps with hard starting.

Before I got the injectors replaced I thought that a "Carbon Clean" might help the bad starting on my 7M-GE because a few mechanics recommended it... I think what they do is run some kind of carbon dissolving fluid through the whole sytem. It sounded like they actually run the car on the stuff like it runs on petrol. They connect it up to the fuel pickup and run it for about 45min.
Needless to say, it didn't help me... but the mechanics assured me it was worth treating your engine to every once in a while.

Ok, this is getting bad. It was only slightly cold this morning, this could get ugly when winter rocks round.
Took about 6-8 gos of the engine going to start then dieing before it reaches 700rpm. Then finally it fired up and idled fine.
Once the car starts, shes all good but the whole cold starting just doesn't work.
Is there a way I can test to see if the cold start injector is actually firing?
Anyone got any suggestions on how to do some diagnostics?
thanks

Does your car also run an idle bypass circuit? check to see if this is working too. Failing that, take the bloody thing to a reputable mechanic - the fact the car is still having this problem only proves the steps taken so far have not fixed it, and it's time to look further than your (and our) field of knowledge.

take it out stick it in a bottle, plug the hole with rags and turn the engine over, see if it dumps petrol in the bottle.

as far as im aware, cold start injectors really dont make much of a difference unless the engine is at a below zero degree temperature. I dont have mine connected on my 4age, and i have NO PROBLEMS starting it....

Likewise with my 18R-GEU. The CSI isn't hooked up and it starts easily even in the coldest weather (well, as cold as it gets up here).
