st162 celica vs late model magna Wed, 10 December 2003 00:33 Go to next message
i was driving round in my manual celica which has no tread on the front, four dudes in the car and a pod filter, and pull up to some lights, it goes green and just as it did some young wannabe guiedo in a late model magna pulls up and boots it then persists in sticking his hand out the window declaring he has won!! what a dickhead as he had a rolling start, and me stationary. so i followed him and we pulled up at the next set of stop lights this time both of us were stationary, lights go green away we go and i clean him up. (with 4 dudes in my car)!

we then pull up to the next set and he winds down his window and gracious in defeat says "man that thing goes!"
and then his drunken wannabe guiedo passengers are like "has that thing got nos? and that little button you press?" (bloody fast and the furious)
i just said "nah dude, pure toyota power!"

and that was that.

Mwhaahahahahahaha. Magna... ha ha ha ha ha.

NOS... whatthe... bloody people who don't know... anything... about cars. Bloody hell!!! If it had NOS it would be worked off its tits and, also, not be street legal! So it would have beaten them the FIRST time.

evil_foetus: yeah it's the 3SGE.

i also raced a Saab 93 turbo last night and just managed to sqeeze the victory (very very close) i got a wicked start though!
For such a small cheap mod the pod filter is quite good, you hit 4300rpm and the pod allows it to breath a whole lot more to 6500 than it does with the standard air box.

cheers fellas

box the pod in and feed it cold air flow - and youll notice a bigger difference again - ATM your sucking in hot air from the engine bay = less power from fuel/air mixture .

your robbing the 3sge by having it out in the open in an engine bay

I agree. If it was a late model Magna with 3.5 V6, i think you would've got wasted, unless the dude couldnt drive.

Another well done to another 162.

On another topic:

I am happy to say that mine passed the emissions test and will soon be registered, engineers cert is all thats needed. I am also happy to say that it is a very nice drive with the 3sgte, but it makes a poping sound(and is a bit slugish) when i put the peddle to the floor, i think it is that it has 2 cats(we'll find out once the stock one is removed after rego).

Soz if i hijacked the thred.

draza : throw an aussie exausts dumpy on it and get a midpipe + cat to suit - makes a hell of a difference Smile

i dint think yours would be able to use the st165 midpipe though - you may have to call russel and ask

Ahh cool - then all you need is the dump pipe - that eliminates the first cat + helps the wastegates work more - makes boost a heap smoother + gains you a good 10 kw + in more pony play

Well thats the thing, I was deciding between a V6 camry or a V6 magna, but i don't know which one. But after your comments im swaying towards a V6 camry.

I dont want to get wasted by falcadores. They think they own the road. Do you reckon a V6 camo would be fast enough?

id expect the camry to be better though in all honesty having driven the camry , magna , commodore , and falcon , the current BA falcon is the pick of the bunch by a clear margin ..

As much as you guys hate to hear it - compared to the others - they are the go - even if they are not as technically endowned as the camry ..

but if it was FWD choice only - magnas look ok - camrys seem to be better performers

umm, I dont want to start shyte, but I have also had the privilage? :/ to drive both a V6 3.0ltr Camry (my parents) and a 3.5ltr Magna (some turds). Magna definently wins hands down. The old 3.0ltr Magnas were rubbish, but the 3.5 are quite respectable.

I don't honestly think the Camry's would outperform a commo or falcon, but they at least you cant heard them from 200 metres away !! Laughing

According to drive.com.au the magnas specs are:
Power 155 KW
Torque 316 Nm
Kerb Weight 1468 kg

And Camry:
Power 141 KW
Torque 279 Nm
Kerb Weight 1416 kg

and just to throw a spanner in the works Razz :
89 Celica SX

Power 103 KW
Torque 173 Nm
Kerb Weight 1145 kg

Sorry I am not Toyota biased... Confused

man for a stock car magnas a great! good brakes, excellent transmissions, they do have vauge steering and a bit of torque steer but apart from that they are great! my dad had a 2001 magna ( 3.5, auto ) and has just finished his time with a series 1 VY Commode! and he says although the 'dore is more fun in the wet, the magna is a fair bit quicker, easier on the juice, more compliant when it come to kicking down and general fit and finish, oh and the handling anint half bad either, 'slow arse piece of turd i think not', i have read only good reports about them
