SV21 Camry Mods and Conversions Wed, 10 December 2003 05:47 Go to next message
My Camry is in very good condition and fully stock standard (3S-FE engine) and i am wondering what mods have people done and how much do some of them cost? I was thinking about putting sports suspension or turbo or extractors on, for example.
Thanks.

Hello! Smile

... I consider myself a dude sort of in the know on this subject...

Have had 3 different engines in the camry now. What you wanna do? How much you wanna spend? What is the purpose of the vehicle?

Get back to me. This topic has been covered a few times before and I have gone thru 3 power up stages in my car so far.

-Regards, Chris-

i'm doing a turbo conversion for my 3s-fe camry. already got most of the parts. should be completed within a month (wouldve been sooner, but i bought some rims Rolling Eyes ). basically you will need the 3s-gte exhaust manifold, ct26 turbo off it, vortech fuel management unit (similar to fuel regulator), intercooler if you want, plus get a dump pipe made up. PM me if you want more details. over on www.toyotanation.com they ae a fair bit of discussion on camrys.

What about clutch/gearbox can or should it be exchanged for something that will handle the extra power?

Im building a 3s-fe for my SV-21. Its just got new internals, balanced bottom ieng, matched port head, and i will be getting the cams re-ground. Ill have it in in january. Ill let you know how it go's. At the moment my cars got extractors and a full 2 inch exhuast. I also opened up It goes a fair bit better than standard now but should be heaps better with the new motor.

cheers,
chris

I really hope i don't offend anyone by saying this but i hope your camry's are in better condition than my parents because there is no way i would want to put any more powerful engine in that thing! Admittedly, it has done over 350 000kms.

But i suppose you guys know what you are doing.

So...what do you think the price difference is between the turbo kitted 3s-fe and dropping in a 3-gte?

mine's only done 85 000km Smile

if i had known how much this turbo conversion would end up costing me, i would have gone straight for a 3s-gte, not because it would be cheaper, but because it would be easier to make power in the long run. so far i've spent about $2900, including a $1200 turbo rebuild, but i still need a fuel pump ($300), plus a full exhaust made up, and intercooler piping for my front mount. also i need various hoses and fittings which could cost anything. as for the actual install, i'll be doing that myself, so there's no cost there.

Hey, my camry has clicked over to 360,000 two weeks ago, and i think its in good condition, see for yourself in the pic below Smile , also the best mod you can do is full exhaust system form the front to back, Iceman did this in his camry and made 73kw@wheels which is damn good coz the motor makes 88kw stock. Get an air filter then exhaust Smile.
