RA65 Celica Side Skirts

Hi guys,
I recently came across a perfect set of side skirts for my SA63 liftback celica (1983). Because these things are so hard to get and even more to import, i'm considering having a mould made for them, so they can be copied for as many copies as I like. I'm just testing the water to see how many ppl might want them, I haven't had the mould made yet, but should be able to get a price within the week to have the mould made and how much each copy would cost. I'm also considering trying an adaptation to make them longer to fit the MA61 supra's cuz my girlfriend has a supra and would like the skirts on her supra too. Anyone interested let me know: steeko@hotmail.com steeko@lowrider.com
or give me a buzz on 0401 625 174 or email me and i'll give you my land line.. btw - I'm in Brisbane, but freighting the side skirts to melb or sydney wouldn't be too much. Stephen in Taz, you have a RA65, dno wot the freight would cost to tazzy tho'.. They're not hugely fat side skirts, but act as a mudflap for the front wheels, and expand again near the rear wheels.. It's bolt on, so you don't have to screw in new holes..
thanks. _Scott in Briz..

just an update.. got the maddest of hook ups.. Dude i play basketball with and used to goto highschool with, he works at a fibre glass place. I called him and left a message but he'll most probably do the moulds for me, not only that, but also for the supra MA61 TOO!! So i won't have to pay for the making of the mould cuz it'll be mates rates.. Not 100% sure of the price, but if my mate can help me, it may be mega cheap for a set!!! I'm thinking of doing 2 back up sets for my celica and 2 for the supra.. But in the meantime spread the word and give anyone interested my details if they're interested. We'll probably leave them unpainted, or just base coated in white or something and you guys paint them wot ever color u want.. Also, if you want deeper skirts (ie lower to ground) we should be able to expand the mould or make a new one for extra deep side skirts.. I've been looking for side skirts for like 3 years! Finally we can now make our own , and as many as we want fellow toy modders!!! Dno if the celica side skirts will fit on the AE86.. but if all goes well, then I might be able to make some for the AE86's if anyone is interested.

wow, so many responses.. Thanks for all the feedback guys! I bought the skirts for $100 for the pair from the wreckers of a
white RA60 in Brisbane. Stephan - no worries, so i aint got pics
but I gotta get the skirts back from my olds place. They'll be
going straight to my mate, I tried to call him all yesterday - he
gets up at 4am for work and sleeps at 7:30pm!!! But I'll keep
trying, my aim is to keep the skirts under the $100 price for the
pair!! Depending on how much it costs for each set to be blasted
and sanded, but I might be able to do that myself.. Steve, no worries about the Canberra ones, if they give you a good
price, get em!! they may be even different to mine and we can copy
different styles of them then too! Ed - they're not but ugly, if your celica is lowered, they look
very $exy indeed. I tried em on my SA63 with supra rims (lowered
2") and it looks very nice! I think it loox better than the
celica's with flares! I am getting the celica copies done first and
the supra (ie supra with flares) will be after my first batch of
celica (no flares) copies. The SUPRA (with flares) versions will be
longer than the celica ones and have tapered ends to meet with the
flared guards. My girlfriend has a MA61 so I have hers to measure
it on and fit it up so it'll fit any MA61 then. Simon - yes they'll fit an RA60 ( they came off a 60') MaxDamage75 - so you have a celica with side skirts?? I don't know
if my celica copies will fit, but I'd need a celica with flares for
me to measure them up.. as for the rear flares, I know where I can
get a passenger side rear (in blue) for you).. the driver side rear
one is a little damaged. I can however get a top supra wing if
anyone is interested, it also has the bottom mini spoiler (not
connected to the top one). Mentor - you also have a celica with flares, I'd have to have a
celica with flares to measure the skirts too. If anyone in Brisbane
or gold coast has a celica with flares let me know so I can take
measurements or even size up a mould for it over a weekend or
something.. Just to let u know, I looked at the kaminari kits for the supra and
celica's... I found that they're not as deep as my side skirts. My side skirts dont' really stick out like \ they more so go straight down with curves at each end. They're also about an inch more in height than the Kaminari kit. Again, thanx for all the feedback guys, I'll keep calling my
fibreglass friend and he can give me a ballpark figure for the
skirts, in the meantime the earliest I can get a pic of the skirts
would be the weekend..

on my car i've got supra flares on the front but no side skirts. i'll post a pic so you can see what i'm talking about.
the flares you mentioned, are they on a celica? I've had problems with the rear flares as they're off the supra.
also the lower spoiler you said, is that the same as mine in my avatar or is it different?

In the meantime, check out this link:
http://www.geocities.com/celicaxx/showcase/bodykit s1.htm#kaminari
Have a look at the silver supra _Erubuni kit or whatever. The supra without the flared guards, the side skirts are fairly similar to this however mine are a little fatter ,, as in height, they go lower to the ground.
Also, woz talking to my bro.. he said the supra mud flaps come off and the flared guards sink in, so the side skirts may fit with minimal adjustment for the SUPRA with FLARES! This is also good news for celica's with FLARES, cuz the side skirt only goes up to the black side bumper strip(rubber). Anyway I'll know more when I get the skirts back and test them on the MA61..

Hey MaxDamage75 - I'll have to measure but I'm feeling confident the flared guards won't be a hassle, but you'll have to say goodbye to your front mudflaps..
The blue rear flares I found at the wreckers are on a supra, sorry dude, I would have thought the supra rear flares would fit with some cutting of the guard. The lower spoiler is different to yours. Yours has holes, the one i found on the RA60 goes all the way along and is black rubber i think. is nothing too huge or fantastic. The rest of the car is pretty standard.

yeah the panels need cutting. it's just i'd rather get ones that fit rather than cutting my car apart but it seems i may have no choice anyway.
is the spoiler the one that goes up around to the top of boot and comes out at the bottom to form the spoiler part? i've seen a celica like that but it wasn't rubber. actually i think i know what you're talking about. i'm guessing it's like those shitty rubber things that were on old preludes mid 80's and bmw's etc.
the mud flaps won't be much of a problem as i only have one front one anyway.

the website says that the body kit is designed for supras with no flares. looks good though and i love the purple rear end down the bottom of the page. the first pic though can't say much about as i've seen that a few times and can't seem to like it.

maxdamage75 -
yep the sh!tty black rubber thing like on old preludes. I have been looking for the pre 86.5 spoiler that all connects but have only ever scene one around the place. I personally like the older shape wing anyway on the supraz.. I could find another supra front mudflap if you want one.. But now you're getting side skirts, shouldn't really matter. If I get to my parents this week, i'll measure them up against the supra flared front guards and let u know if they are no problem or not..

ok...
im confused.. which one does it look like??
#1: http://www.geocities.com/celicaxx/showcase/regulus .jpg
OR
#2: http://www.spoilers.com/images/autos1/SUPRA630s.jp g
OR
#3: http://www.spoilers.com/images/autos1/SUPRA631f.jp g
if it looks like #1 ill cream my pants as that looks hot!! the other two overlap up the sides of the flares quite badly (in my opinion) and look crappy.
if youre going to make the mound for the ends of the skirts to shuit the supra + flares, adny chance you could make them LESS like 2 and 3 with regards to the way they meet the flares??
i know #1 is flareless, but you should still be able to style something similar over the flare leading edge. ALSO on #1 i love the way the rear of the flare sweeps up the guard, not just abutting it.

Hi Guys, after looking at the kits online, I agree that the side skirts that cover up high on the flares for the supra flares duz look cr@p. So the mould for the supra will replace the mudflap fitting snug and not protruding, I'm not 100% sure of how I'll do this, but it may just bolt straight up, or be with a small rubber lining in between similar to where the flare meets the body of the fender. U guys will have to wait till I get the pics, but they'll be on my celica which don't have the flares. The skirts for the supra I'll have to make moulds up, when I done this, I'll post some pics of some of them on the MA61 and u can let me know wot u think. Also, the sideskirts I got do sweep up towards the rear wheel well, except not sharp, it's more of a rounded curve. CelicaMad - the stuff I got woz from the Pacific Highway wreckers down near the gold coast. Only thing i noticed woz the wheels (crap anyway), the supra rear wing and rubber boot top (mini spoiler).. the rest of it woz crud. They used to have a burnt out supra, but I think it's totally wrecked and most of it woz garbage as it woz nearly entirely melted Good idea about the front spoiler, after I've perfected the side skirts, I'll be looking to customize a front lower spoiler (ie real low to the ground perhaps) for the supra and celica's. I also want to make a nice mould for the rear of these cars, as I saw a supra with the kaminari kit in QLD and it looked pretty hot! It had a cutout for the exhaust pipe too.

celica mad.. sounds good to me.. A custom front air dam would be very nice!! Dno how much he charges, but from everywhere i've been, i've been looking at a few grand! If you get the mould made up, make sure you can keep it, cuz then you can patent it as your design! But if the price is right I'd be down for a custom front kit. I work mon-fri.. but I'm down for a Saturday if he's open? I also play basketball on Sundays at Strathpine west (next to Brendale). Could this guy also perhaps know about the kit for the rear of the car? Anyway, I'll get those pics 2 u guys asap this weekend. _steeko

Toymods doesn't seem to be emailing me when this thread is updated. I checked it and it has 100 posts since I last looked
Anyway, just remember that on celicas like Mentors that have the aftermarket flares like those Gt/Gti variants (perhaps his car started off as a GTi??), the flares will be DIFFERENT to cars that have Supra flares added to the front and/or back. If you make moulds to suit one type, you might find they don't suit the other.

I didn't know there woz a difference between the 2 types of flared guards on the celicas.. Anyway, i bought the wrong CD to work 2day, it had a ok pic of the skirts I got.. I got the pic off a japanese celica site. Anyway, talked to my friend the fibreglasser.. He says we can do the moulds ourselves, but has to get the prices on the fibre glass sheets and resin. He works 6 days a week, so it's a bit hard to find time to get him. Anyway, he's up for it, and will help me out, but the supra skirts will take a little longer than I originally thought, so I'll be doing the celica skirts first, ,the 61 skirts will have to wait a few months I also am in the process of stripping my celica underbits to replace the suspension again. I also noticed the celica skirts of max's and mentors cars are different to the supras.. The supra flares taper into the body for the mudflap.. Hey mentor, i don't know where u got your front air dam from but it looks very nice indeed! Anyway, in the meantime I'll find out the prices for the regular side skirts, but I don't think they'd fit on MaxDamage's and Mentors cars, cuz the flares will be in the way ...
unless I can find a way around that.. anyway, will keep you all up to date.

Hey guys... just to let u know a bit more about prices. Am getting the moulds made up this weekend into next week. It's gonna run me about $300 for the moulds to be made So I'll have to save a bit as it's a bit more expensive than I thought. Anyway, the materials for each pair of side skirts will run about $150 - $200 for the pair!! But that's a ballpark figure as we can't know exactly the materials needed until we've completed one copy of them. Anyway, expect the sideskirts to be around the $200 - $250 for a pair give or take $100.. We should have the first copy made up in a few weeks and I'll fit em to the celica and take more pics. Just to keep u guys informed. Scott

sure thing,, no worries guys. Well I'll take pics of the copies on my car when it's done. I understand it's a bit expensive at the moment, but it's just a figure at the moment, the price might move after I've set the moulds and can make copies. Anyway, I got them home last night, they are about 10cm too short for the supra. But I'm aiming to have them for the celica first.
Anyway, will keep u all updated..

hey dudes.. sorry about the lack of updates..
i've been getting my womans' ma60 supra rolling ..
my celica is still on jackstands after many a weekend of hacking away, maybe in a months time i'll be rolling again. I still haven't heard from my fibreglass friend, he may have made some copies not sure yet. But after my car's rolling i'll be at his place helping him along. Sorry again for being slack, but I drive the supra alot and need to keep it on the road..
Anyway, I've called fibreglasser and his mobile never answers, i'll try him again 2nite and let u guys know wots up..
Not sure on the price yet still, cuz of materials etc..
As for getting them to adelaide, i'm not sure on the freight,
should only be like $50 or $60 max..

BTW...just relating to this thread. Has anybody know where i can get some sort of rear bar for a ra65. I want something that just drops down a couple of inches just so that it covers to the bottom of the petrol tank. I saw a bar on a supra a couple of weeks ago, i was driving past and did get a really good look.
Thanks

I've seen the rear valence on a white ma60 import up here..
it has wheel flares and has the US style tail lights with the reverse light in the middle of the rear lights.. looks very nice tho i haven't seen them anywhere else. I'm the same, i want something to cover up the fuel tank so it cant' be seen..
If i find one, i'll get copies made hehehehe
In the meantime, i woz reading up on the US lowrider style jap cars, alot of them are putting on rubber/pvc body kits.. that way they hold shape but only bend when they hit, and dont crack like fibreglass. Might be harder to make with the mould, but would last alot longer, they say u only have to repaint them , cuz when the rubber bends, the paint can crack,, but i think they're a great idea, i think the new soarers have a pvc part lower front bar.

BTW I don't know who's car this is. I blanked out the plates, but if they see this message and object to their car being on the web, I am sorry - just contact me and I will remove them.

Hi Stefan.
Nope, the moulds never got made. THe freind i gave them too it just sat in his garage never done
I went to another fibreglass place and they wanted to charge me $1500 for the moulds, i couldn't afford that
Those skirts on that RA60 u showed is exactly them!!!..
they do look a little thicker when the car is lowered with MA60 supra rims.
These side skirts I'll be selling with my celica. It's pi$$ed me off too much and i'm selling it. Just spent $2000 on having the body work fixed and the paint A1. ANother $500 on new camshaft pulley's etc. And another $400 on registration ..
I'm soooooooooooo sick of this car, i luv it, but it now owes me $22,0000 . I could have bought a 90s soarer with that, instead i have a celica that I can hardly get any parts for
I'll probably only get 5 or 6 for it. I'm gonna put 8grand on it cuz it's in great condition now, but i've drawn the line and sick of it's money pit.. If anyone wants it.. let me know.
Else I might just leave it at a shopping centre for a few days.
Handles on rails, camber kit on the front, new friggin everything yet it duzn't sell. I seen some RA65's in QLD for $6000 and they're stock standard. There woz even one that sold for $7500 up sunny coast and it woz stock standard (but had 130,000kms on it). I woz hoping to get a decent price for mine with the kit and supra parts and straight body, all replaced and serviced engine & drivetrain parts..
Last time i buy an old jap import me thinx.

The side skirts in the pics stefan posted look good. You should go round to that guys place and ask him about where he got them or else wait for him to leave and hassle him before he can drive off. Also, is the rear spoiler the same rubbery thing as mine?

LOL, it should look good after all the $$s i spent.
But i'm happy with the body looking great and with it running right, i'm hoping to sell it soon.
Might seperate some mods before it's sold.. Depends wot u want i guess. Those 16X7s are kinda sold to a guy in WA.
I have to make sure they fit a sprinter before he buys them.
I'm sure they fit a *A6* so they'll definately fit your ride.
Dont have any pics except for wots on ROH website.
I've got a fresh film so I'll have to take some and scan them in.
I had the 16s listed at $1650 which still has it's new Dunlop FM901 tyres - 205/45 all round. I went to beaurepairs last week and asked how much the same rims are for my celica - custom made with it's offset and lug pattern.. dude phoned me and said $2950 fitted and balanced.. LOL, so i think $1650 is a fair price considering they're as good as new (still has nobly bits on all the tyres).
Hey maxdamage, the sideskirts i got from a wreckers, just pure luck really. They were off a RA60. I had them sanded and repainted the same white color as my celica and they look great
they're also fitted on it ready to sell. I couldn't find any fibreglass places that were really cheap enough for moulds so I'll just sell em with the car. Pretty bummed I didn't get to copy them, but then again i'm sick of spending money on this car. It will never end. The rear spoiler on my celica?
i dont have a rear spoiler, woz gonna put on one from an MA61, but thought it looked better without cuz i dont have the flared guards. U can see specs of the celica at:

Steeko, i think Maxdamage was refering to the boot spolier in the pics I posted, not your car
Those rims sound nice but are well outta my price range. I sent you an email (the addy on your site) about what bits and peices I was interested in
Out of interest, how much did those sideskirts cost from a wrecker, and where did you get the rubber front airdam? I'd be interested in both of those too, but it sounds like they're being sold with the car.

Hey All,
I my opinion the standard road gear fitted to the xA6x are great. The Supra or the American Celica GT-S with the flares are better then opting for after market...
That is my 2 cents worth.
Cheers.

What exactly do you mean by standard road gear?
If you mean just 'stock look', well, I love the GTS but there's not much chance of me getting my XT flared. Even if I got the flares, aparently the bodies do differnt things at the back anyway. And my car looks undertyred enough as it is I don't like wanky bodykits at all, but if it suits the lines of the car... one thing i defiently want eventually is a bigger front airdam along the lines of Mentor's. IMO it suits the car AND is functional.
