Travelling with Laptop/Camera equipment Wed, 10 December 2003 23:43 Go to next message
Just wondering whether anyone has any advice/experience with taking a laptop / compact flash cards onboard planes when travelling. Do the metal detectors/x-ray machines at airports nuke them or anything?

I'm flying up to Whitsundays in two days and want to make sure there's no chance of wiping out any photos etc..

No. Rob and I have done it many times. Everything is all ok. Dont get hurt in the slightest. That is with computers and digital camera's.

There is a sign on the scanner at canberra airport stating that it doesn't harm electronic equiptment or 35mm film.

If you are taking professional 35mm print/slide/transparancy film thru - ask it to be hand checked - I understand that IT DOES effect the quality of high end film - and at $22 a roll, stuff that !! - I want 100% quality

Normal "Kodak GOLD" type consumer stuff is generally fine for scanning without any flattening/washing of colours

CF Cards and the like are generally OK, treat them as you would a Hard drive as far as data integrity and handling goes etc...
