Can Head Bolts Be Reused?

Pulled the head off my 3sgte and I can remember reading somewhere that the headbolts actually stretch by design.
Can I reuse them??
What are they worth to buy new and are Toyota ones good enough??
Cheers

Toyota would recommend that you replace them
I bought a new set for my 4AGTE from toyota for around $90 a set, then had my head gasket fail after 5 minutes of idling (copper gasket, no o-rings) so the head had to come back off. I replaced the gasket with a factory graphite one, and re-used the bolts, which may not have been the best option, but they have withstood 17-20psi regularly without any head gasket problems. I certainly wouldn't want to torque them down more than twice without replacement though.

By this do you mean that with a copper/metal head gasket, o-ringing is needed/essential/preffered??

yes. yes they can.
and toyota dont actually specify. not at my work, anyway...
we re-use headbolts all the time.
toyota headbolts aren't a torque-to-yeild design anyway, so you wont have a problem, just make sure you clean up the threads, with a wire brush, coat them with a little oil, and put some oil under the heads of the bolts, and on the washers, and away you go!!

Not essential, but from my experience, definately preferred, even if the head has just had a surface grind to make sure its true.
