You could try some automatic transmission fluid. Temporary solution whilst you save money to actually fix the synchros.

slightly ON topic Confused the synchro gears go in the 80 series landcruiser boxes and is apparently very common......3rd gear is the usual candidate and on my old mans cruiser it crunches like a muthafucka when shifting down or up to 3rd gear when going kinda fast (diesel fast...) i wouldnt think of using incorrect fluid on anything as sacred as a landcruiser so am interested in $$$ on fixing this problem on a gearbox twice the size of all of yours put together Razz.

no seriously some prices on replacement gearboxes would be nice also i trust that the powers of the readers of this forum will be able to provide my lazy bitch ass with the answers i would struggle to ask about, let alone understand the impact of....

can anybody explain to me the workings of synchro gears...please spare no details

Redline Gearbox oil... Brings a bit of life back to your nearly dead synchros... expensive tho and a bit hard to find... very very good but.

i watched/helped my mate rebuild/replace synchros in an 80 series cruiser box. aside from it being a shit of a job and the parts taking 3 weeks to get here, it ended up the same after the rebuild!

so we dropped the normal trans fluid and put auto fluid in it which helped it out a bit too. 2nd gear seemed to be the PITA on this though - all others improved.

Dude,
Like someone said earlier

in Miranda
