hey ppl
i own a AE86 with a stocky 4AC motor, havin found it has a severe lack of power and knowing i am a second year apprentice with a rather low budget...
does the 4AGE RWD or even 100kw motor have enough balls in a AE86 to be worth the hastle and money putting it in???

Only you can answer that question. Everything is relative - for some people it will be plenty quick, for others it will be slow and boring. I'm used to a 400hp 12 second car, so I would fall into the latter category. You're used to a 4A-C so perhaps you fall into the former category! Methinks you'd get bored with 100kW pretty quickly though (not that I believe these engines have 100kW to begin with, but that's another matter).

hmmmmm well ive driven both engines and the efi one does make a big difference
and does sound a heap better as well
advantage is later on going to a forced fed optiosn easier as well and most of us have heard about the ae71 over in nz with close 2 500rwhp...
yet at the end of the day it depends what your after and how much you desire to spend
if youve got the bling go for the 3sgte gen 3 off its nuts

Well.
With a weighup of cost/power. 4age aren't a bad choice. Considering minimal fuss is made over it. Formula atlantic engines it probably everyones dream at the moment. I heard those things gotta be rebuilt every 5000kms or so.
Overall. ENOUGH? or... HAPPY?
Well i am HAPPY with the power.... But it is not ENOUGH power though.

If its worth the fuss a 20v is always an option.
Your best bet would be to track down someone who has a 4a-ge 86 and ask them for a ride. Perhaps one of your friends may know somebody and they can set it up for you

i put my gze in at the start of my second year apprenticeship so you can. and a gze running 15 pounds gets slow and boring pretty quickly. but the first drive after the 4ac was pure heaven!

even so. 20v isn't that much better. Hell i'm not saying an 86 isn't fun. U can have a ball with them. But 900kg with 110-130kw at wheels would be GRRRREAT!! U do get sick of the droning and bitching the motor does on steep uphills with passengers.

my conversion kept me amused for 1-2 days.. but i'm sure you'll get plenty of fun from a 4age if thats all you want out of it.
also, be weary of hidden costs involved in installations.

the 4age is a good fun little motor in a sprinter
its all what you after, the ge alows you enough power to start having a bit of fun, it gets you around well and give you a bit of power under the foot for some twisties.
I always wanted a gze in mine, but a good oportunity came up and I ended up putting a 4age in. I was very happy, it lasted me about 2 years and ive decided its time for more hehe, ie. why ive got a new sprinter with 1g hehe
