I cant tell you the temp mine turns on at, but its the bottom of the operating range, as soon as it hits the 2nd bottom line it kicks in. I did have the same problem with the thermo fan cutting in when it was hot due to flat battery, this was resolved by getting the voltage regulator replaced(was only chargeing at 10.5 instead of 14v...makes huge! difference)

Your fan should not be running all the time; mine only kicks in for about a minute at a time and only when the car is stationary. Adjust your thermostat.

You'll probably find your coolant thermostat opens at greater than 80 degrees. If you set your engine fan to kick in before the thermostat opens, the fan will be on pretty much all the time.

norbs is on the money, also note that most toyotas run at approx 82 degrees, your fan is effectivly trying to cool the engine cooler than its proper operating temp, this is probably why the fan will not turn off.

the optimum setup would be to only need the thermo fan when u are sitting in traffic, with an efficient cooling system, normal driving should keep the temp floating around 82deg. so ON at ~90 off at ~85 is not a bad setup

i kint blemember my exact fan on/of temp settings but on regular 25degree day stuck in traffic my fans only need to run for 30seconds at a time.

interesting, I've noticed my fans never come on at all. i've tested the fans, and they work with power applied to them, but they never seem to come on when the car is hot. I'd check the thermostats for them, but i can't find them, And can they be set to exact tempratures? eg turn on at 90C? someone help me here?
