Well typical music cds are around 650mb but it depends if it saves it in a different format.
Got an xbox with an 80gig and to tell you I have never tried to load music on it before.

Just keep going until it start's to fill up. You will know, because when you go into the saved games area in the Xbox dashboard, it says "50,000+blocks free" When you see that number start to come down, you can just watch it.

Dunno. Never been able to figure that out. Get it down to under 50000 blocks and you will be able to figure it out.

Spend $150, through out the 10gig HDD, and drop in a 120gig HDD
then you can put as many songs and DivX's as you like

Yes it voids the warranty and you will also need a modchip to run the new harddrive. Its not too harder job but if you dont feel comfortable poking around in there, there are quite a few people who will do it and charge accordingly.
Can do better than songs and divx's too, I have about 30 games loaded on mine

Out of the four hundred and fifty two billion xboxes I have fitted larger hard drives too none of them needed a mod chip

But the xbox is only designed for 10gig (8gig in some cases), how would it register the extra space?
Unless you have just flashed the onboard chip with a new bios?

Are you talking about flashing the onboard BIOS or do you have another method?

Basically, you buy a PS/2 for the Grand Turismo Series, and an XBox for everything else.
They are a much better unit, with better support (can put mp3s, DivX's on them), they are Dolby Digital, and more games are even DTS compatible (a VERY big plus if you have an expensive home theatre and love quality sound.
I'm sure others can add to this

Yes you insert a known game that has an exploit which then allows you to install the new console/dash or whatever its called.

Installing a solder modchip is a little harder than some savegames on a memory card.

Why would you be needing to solder in a mod chip anyway?

Ancient xbox, bought 1 when soldier chips were the way to go. I dont recall solderless chips being available (or readily available) when I went ahead with it. Still had it reflashed with the D6 EvolutionX bios last year though so its not useless.

What do u mean by softmod. Is it doing the half boot/swap cd method? Or the cd supposedly made. That u boot up with then play a cd with it. All sorts of funny stuff is capable of the xbox since its cpu based almost. I only got into the scene about a week ago. Haven't touched any forums or anything. just got a chip and hdd mod. happy with it. I got about 50ish games lined up for it plus numerous stuff mysteriously acquired non retail. . I was hoping. Cool 1 u seem to konw your way around xbox. Is there any way of boosting performance from xbox? oclocking? What other connectivity can be done with it? kboard/mouse? Max payne 2 is real hard with xbox controllers!
If the hdd mod is done without chip. Preparing partitions. I heard that the xbox is only limited to recognising the original hdd through hard drive specs? Partition size? What file system does it use anyway?

theres not as much point oc'ing an xbox, as all games are made with the standard xbox specs in mind.
it would be like o'cing your 3.0 ghz p4 with a raedon 9800 pro to play quake 1.. its not going to get any better

There is no such thing about too much power ever. At some moments it gets real hectic and jerky. Max Payne 2 and Dynasty Warriors 4. I bet u that 5-10% extra fps or power wouldn't go astray.

Only possible reason why I think you might want to overclock is if you want to run some intensive linux tasks. Otherwise the xbox does what it was designed to do, game.
Apparently soon a 3rd party xbox is coming out which they have repaced the processor with a 1.4ghz I believe.

when i play music off my cd's on it, in the music screen when the tracks are playing, there is a pattern thingy on the left side. when i press the 'info' button on the DVD remote it goes full screen.
does anyone know if i can put (upload) my own video clips or patterns onto this? or can you only view the patterns it shows now?

Cool1
To put a new (empty unformated) hard drive in an unmodded (factory bios'd) xbox would be quite difficult wouldn't it? the box won't boot without a signed dashboard... even if you try to run a legit signed game... or do you prepare the hdd on a pc or other (chipped) box first or do some dodgy hot swapping or something...?

changing the dashboard is all well and good and can allow you to run phoenix bios loader or similar to get exactly the same features as a mod, however, I am still confused as to how you can swap hdd with only an exploit and without using either a modded box, tsop'd box or a pc...
PS I love your avatar... you should have a zoom button or something though
