icon8.gif  Changes to Engineering Rqmts in NSW?? Mon, 15 December 2003 07:04 Go to next message
I was just over at the RTA website checking out the light vehicle mod guide & the content of http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/v si06.pdf document is different to how I remember it.

Quote:

Examples of minor (owner certified) modifications are:
Engine changes where the capacity increase is less than 15% above the maximum size engine available for the vehicle (providing no major structural modifications are necessary and where noise and/or exhaust emission ADRs apply, all standard equipment such as carburettors, exhaust systems, exhaust gas recirculating valves, oxygen sensors and catalytic convertors relating to noise and emission control are retained and operate correctly);

I thought there was also a power level at which the car had to be engineered despite not increasing capacity. Isn't that why GZE's & 20v's have to be engineered? Have the rules changed or is my memory fooked? (The doc is from 1998 & I'm sure that I looked at a different copy 6 months ago)

Can anybody find a clause in the doc above that would require a 16V --> GZE conversion to be engineered?

thanks.

20valves are arguable on the engineering but the gze's are forced induction so require it

I can't find where it says that forced induction requires engineering?

As far as I am aware, its 15% capacity and 15% power, which ever is greater
I know that is the law is WA (except its 25% Razz)

Give them a call and make sure
Not everything is stated on the web

I got that info when they sent a letter back to me, not from the web

theres nothing new in that section 6 document...

owner certified applies to any mod under 15% capacity, and not rquiring any structural modifications (ie custom mounts etc). the engine must also be "as the factory intended" with all emissions gear etc connected. NO modifications allowed whatsoever.

for forced induction you need to multiply the cc'd capacity, and this will usually push you over the 15% capacity ruling.

power output increase is at the descetion of the inspector whom you try to pass the engine through for a brown slip.
