facet pump feeding a surge tank which feeds a bosch pump.. all in the engine bay, using standard fuel lines.
to me, that was the easiest option.. but you may just want to run new lines and 1 pump.

i just run one pump using standard lines on a boosted GZE. dont let anyone tell you the standard fuel lines arent enough, but obviously bigger lines, two pumps and a surge tank are ideal.

Two fuel pumps, surge tanks, new feul lines.
What a load of crap?
I dont mean to piss on peoples feet, im sure the above mentioned systems work but think of the cost.
Fuel pump/pumps $100-500 (new or sec hand, which ever you choose)
Fuel line $20 ( not really needed but ha while your there right.
Surge tank $100
+ other little things like rubber hoses, clamps and so forth.
Get yourself a vn commodore fuel tank with pump and baffles, go to metal fabrication place (preference is up to you,or ill recommend someone) and get them to install vn baffle and pump into sprinter tank. I did and i dont regret it,
$300-350 later bang your all done
this my personnal opinion from what has been done to my car (4age ae86), i in no way mean that this setup is better, easier, safer then others that may be mentioned.
Sorry to piss on ya foot if i have, i just dont believe in surge tanks.

I did the Surge tank and two pumps tucked under the rear end. It works fine but was a pain in the arse to fit.
Modify the stock tank if you can as FKN16V says. Or to get started you could just run a high pressure pump straight out of the tank. It is a bit dodgy, esp. when the tank is getting empty, but I know a couple of guys who run it like that and their cars still work.

I'm only using the one pump without a surge tank (4AGE).. only time i have a problem is under 1/4 tank going around corners.. The internal pump + baffle would be a good idea...

i got very good prices on my setup so it was worth it:
facet pump from a mazda 626 - $55
alloy surge tank - $110
bosch 220L pump - $150 (new)
hoses/clamps/fittings - about $30
hardest part was screwing in the clamps in awkward positions.

i ran my 4age with no surge tank, like (mrsoopra) said as long as it was over 1/4 off tank I had no problems..
Since the 4age's been ditched in favour of gze power a surge tank and another fuel pump was added.
In short if your pick is 4age buy a smaller fuel pump first as you can use it as a lift pump later.
MY 2 cents

I ran 2 pumps and a surge tank until one of my pumps packed up. Started using the single pump to get me out of trouble and never went back to the other setup. Have no real problems at low fuel levels even though its in a Suzuki Sierra that goes offroad so gets on all sorts of steep angles.
