Clutch and Flywheel for 86... Need Help... Tue, 16 December 2003 00:16 Go to next message
Ok Guys here's the story...

I bought an 86 with a 4 buck brass button exedy friction plate. It was a bitch in traffic, but it was fucking fun when driven hard let me tell you Smile
Now as I spend most of my time in the car whilst at work in traffic, I needed something a little more freindly. So I swapped it for a full face HD PBR clutch. Whilst the gearbox was out I noticed several things:

The 4puck was about 2mm to small for the pressure plate (the owner of the car said the 4 puck was for a 2t if that makes a difference) and hence left a 1mm indented score on the pressure plate.

The fly wheel was scored also, but nowhere near as bad. Needs a machine.

The full face clutch that I put in was about 3-4mm to big for the pressure plate and hence overlapped it.

Anyways, since I am going to drop in a new engine with lotsa power, I have decided on getting a new clutch kit and a fly wheel. I would prefer a full face clutch, but it must have a fair bit of bite in it as I don't want to slip alot. The flywheel I was looking at was from ARC in Melbourne (the same as the one that Bill Sherwood has). I have no idea of the price for it, and they don't seem to want to reply to emails.

So anyways, I need to get my hands on a complete new clutch kit including pressure plate, friction plate, spigot bearing and thrust bearing. I also want to get a new alloy fly wheel. What sort of prices would I be looking at for all of the above taking into account I can do all of the labour?

Any further comments or suggestions?

oh and btw then engine that will eventually be in it should be making in the order of 100kW at the wheels if that helps

Thanks

what engine and what gearbox? the setups you have had sound a bit dodgy, the clutch plate and pressure plate should be nearly identical in diameter. get normal clutch disc and a heavy duty pressure plate. it will give you a heavier pedal but the performance is good and can be easily driven like a normal car (just with more efort). as a kit it will come with the thrust race. the spigot bearing shouldnt be too much money they are usually pretty cheap just ask auto one or the like. the flywheel however could be more expensive depending on the engine.
