anybody know if the 3t block is swappable with the 3t-gte block, i know possibly the pistons may not handle the compression, any ideas ?
cheers Wayne

I know of someone that fits 2tg head to 3t blocks! I think because the 2tg head can flow more than the 3tg!

The 3t bare blocks are the same, but it would be fare to assume that the pistons are different due to one N/A and the other Forced induction . The engine builder who first rebuilt (who is now out of business) my 3t-gteu put n/a pistons in mine and they lasted about 18 mths/8000kms before it lunched a piston, of course I found this out after I pulled it down and he had gone out of business.

hi 2t,2tg,3t,3tg head gaskets are the same one so as long as u have all the 3tgte parts u can use the 3t block i done this with the 2t to 2tg.yes pistons are different compression ratios

Celicamad85,
3TGTE block is slightly different to any other T series block. It has a location for the Turbo Oil drain and a Sump breather pot. Mind you I'm sure the sump breather was onthe very first 2TG as well.
Internal parts are not the same either. 3T and 3TGTEU dimensions are the same but COmpression is different. 3TGTE Rods are stonger and crank is rumored to be better as well. It wil all fit together no worries tho Just depends what your actually trying to build.

i have the block that the melted pistons came from maybe i should send it away for crack testing, and im getting some standard 3t-gte pistons second hand apparently no signs of detonation for $150
this should do the car ok (wonder if it will keep up with my worked 22re?), i can get it all in and running, then after 6 months once i get bored with it i will start to go crazy with mods i want to run a sequential twin turbo setup, the pistons should last til then
i kind of thought the oil return line was at least different as well as the pistons, just needed an expert like you rod to confirm this and set me in the right direction, before i start launching pistons sideways through the block and quarter panel at innocent children and elderly people walking on the footpath
rod, the next four days i have no work i am working on the cars i know ive said it a few times but DEFIANTLY have those pics this weekend if not tommorow night

hi rod u are right about oil drain i forgot about that but in saying that, it is only a drain and the 3t block could easily be drilled and taped for a nipple & a flair fitting placed on the drain pipe to connect it to the sump or block anywhere lower then the turbo. this would be best done with the sump off to ensure that the hole to be drilled is not on a rib for the bearing journals. this is just an option i thought id throw in to make things easy if a block cant be sourced. good luck
