car problems....urgent Wed, 17 December 2003 13:12 Go to next message
I have a 3TGTEU in a TA23 and I currently my car wont start. When I turn the key my car will start and kick over but will only stay on idle for like 3 seconds and if I try and give it some revs it will die instantly.

I had an issue with the with the car starting a little while ago and was told by a mechanic after numerous tests that I had a leaking injector.

Could this problem be that the injector has started to leak even more, causing the motor to be totally flooded before I start it? Would cleaning the injectors solve this problem? Could it be another problem if so, what?

Any information would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck without a car until this problem is fixed.

Thanks in Advance

I dont beleive so.
You can still run a 4cyl engine on 3cyls, so if one was flooded, it would run crap, but run

Check wiring to AFM, TPS, etc etc, vacuum lines, and can you do a diagnostic check?

that is a common prob on a 4ag if th efuel pump stops

pull th ereturn line from car and put it into a bucket
start car and see if fuel pissed out of return
this will tell u if u are gettin fuel

if the fuel stops b4 engine stops then yr airflowmeter is not triggering the fuel pump
bypass fuel pump relay to trial test it

sounds like fuel pump, normaly at idle theres enough vac to suck fuel out of the injectors to idle open the throttle and it dies

Even if I dont open up the throttle it still dies, could it still be the fuel pump? If so what would be the best way about testing the fuel pump?

BTW the fuel pump still makes its whining noise when running.

Thanks

If your car runs for a few seconds and dies, I'd bet money the injectors aren't firing at all but the cold start injector keeps the engine going for a few seconds at a time. Try disconnecting the cold start injector and see if it runs then.

Found my problem, one of the pipes from the fuel tank had a hose clamp that was too big and it was leaking out small amounts of fuel, put on a new clamp and away she went.

Thanks for any help that was given Smile
