These are questions my friend wants to know and I donno much about engines and conversion so if you can please help.

he is looking to get a 4AGZE for conversion to sprinter:

1. How do you tell if the engine is AFM or MAP just by looking at the engine setup

2. How do you tell if engine is in good condition and things are working fine

3.If he want to fit a SC14 to the engine, what should he look for, does he have to change to larger injectors, bigger pulley, computer, front mount and what psi can it handle

4. If he wants to rebuild the engine before he put it in, do you know where he can get it done for a good price in Sydney. Also how much to rebuild the SC?

5. What would be a good setup to improve the power?

1. you can tell if it's MAP, 'cos there's no AFM... basically, if the inlet pipe from the throttle body goes straight to the air filter, and there is NO big bulky sensors in the air tract, then you have a MAP engine.

2. turn it over, do a leak-down test, do a compression check on it, if it is still in a car, apart from that...

3. you can't fit an SC14 to a 4A-GZE if you're putting it in an AE86, and still retain the stock engine mounts. it's too long.

4. no. i'm in Adelaide.

5. front mount, NEVO pulley kit, aftermarket ECU.

how much money does this guy want to spend
rebiulding an engine properly could be up to and over 3000 to 5000

sounds like yr friend wants alot done

and a price to do all of it could easily cost around 10000 bucks

front mount could be anything from 1000 to 2000
it is a long job and if u pay someone then yr up for alot

nevo pulley is around 500 maybe not to sure

changing supercharger is long and tedious job

will yr friend be doin all work himslelf

just remember the expensive part of most jobs is labour

dont think that a clean engine has low kms
or a low km engine is better than one slightly higher
u just have to pick one with less km and hope
