Has anyone done it? I'm trying to figure out if it's cost-effective or not.

this isnt a suggestion, just a comparison.
2nd hand box from importers is around the same price.

Thanks for the info guys. A second-hand box would certainly be easier, but its condition is always an unknown... it would be nice to have a freshly rebuilt box for the same price!
Of course if one of the gears has lost a tooth that could change things somewhat...

Ed, does that include labour? or just parts?
And Norbie? what have you done to the box?

Turn that frown upside down.
Spend an additional $1500 and you can get close ratio gear set from Ivan Albins.

Theres some 6 bearings in them and the two large ones are $90 each for multi ball heavy duty ones , the others are all about $40 to $60 that makes about $380 just for bearings alone, ad a couple of syncros , clips, seals, gaskets and your well over $500 just for parts. I reckon id be suss on a rebuild that only cost $550 , for the above it costs around $700 to $900 to do properly.
Not realy worth it when you can get a import box for $450 but
then import boxs are getting hard to find now .

Put a W57 in. They're disposable and a couple of hundred bucks at most
