I realise, to do engine conversion.. rear axel conversion so u can have a LSD, and maybe even a trueno nose conversion.
Grands worth of dollars. it seems prices will be running close to just importing a damn JDM.
The way the importation scheme is right now, has just started to implement some changes. Are they easy imported and complied?
Around what price.
And to comply/engineer in NSW, anything need to be changed or is it set to go as is?

This has been covered before, but I'll 're-cover' again.
A JDM 86 vehicle with an un-bent chassis and in fairly good condition(minimal rust) is about 7-9k before it leaves japan. Importation costs, FOB charges, customs clearence, quarantine, etc.... will be a few grand on top of that.
From there, you'll need the bare basics "compliance", that means unleaded fuel cap, seat belts, side intrustion bars, etc... which will be at least $1k. Then the local RTA inspection costs, engineers, rego, and it'll be another 1k at least.
So all in all, at least 12-16k for a decent clean ae86 (be it levin coupe, or trueno hatch) landed, and driving.
PROs: Its a geniune JDM vehicle. Its most likely got some pretty good stuff on the car.
Cons: You are taking a gamble. Can't inspect that cars personally, and in most cases, the locals will outbuy the better vehicles. Insurance. Most have drift wear, and *gulp* drift damage. Obviously cost $$$$$$$.
---------------------
When you are buying a stock aus spec, you get to inspect the vehicle thoroughly. Buying from some chick or old fart would insure a vehicle that hasn't been thranged. If you set aside 3.5kMAX, you buy an absolute clean sprinter, and probably better than most chassis 'we get' from japan.
If you take a look at the costs, i reckon it's still worth it.
$3k (drive in drive out transplant 86kw or redtop).
$2k (lsd, and disc brake rear).
$3k (Optional whiteline COMPLETE suspension setup).
All in all, 8k for the whole project for a vehicle that is very close to a JDM with stock suspension. A bit over 10 for something real nice.
the aussie car will have the once over, so may be mechanically sounder than the JDM in this case. And insurance wise, the car will be local.
-------------------------------
I am NOT!! saying you can't pick a JDM vehicle and register at below the 10k price. But you get what yoy pay for. And it'll be a shitbox JDM vehicle.
Bottom line, I don't believe that a JDM vehicle is superior than an Aus spec vehicle that has been modified with an engine transplant, disc brake rear end, some suspension work, etc... Some would argue otherwise though ("It's not the real thing.. etc...") If it's got ae86 on the bulkhead, and if it's been manufactured and rolled out of TMC in Japan, what the fuck is the difference?
rock on.
