crank angle sensor Fri, 19 December 2003 22:06 Go to next message
Hey all,
I have a little problem with my hachi- its in the final stages of getting back on the road again(after 5 months) and it is at the tuning shop at the moment-getting all hooked up(its a 20v)and the guy was trying to start it and all he got was a few coughs and splutters then it died, he said there might be something wrong with the crank angle sensor as he was only getting haphazard readings from it-u know like _pulse....pulsepulse......pulse..pulse.- something like that Confused
I'm running a microtech lt8 with it too. So can anyone help out?Do i need another whole distributor or what?

Does the microtech support 24 tooth crank angle sensor? If not you might need to take out the extra tooth and run 'top dead centre'. I ran the wolf in mine and i also needed to modify the crank angle sensor. You microtech dealer should know if it supports this function. If it does and your dizzy is the prob, a new dizzy will set you back a fair bit (my last one was $200) as they usually don't wanna split them. I know Jap Spares in Kerriwee will split that's where i got my last one.

I am pretty sure that they support them..

If it was your dizzy, then I'd turf it and run coils strait from the microtech, assuming it is an LTX. That way you get much more control over your ignition = more power.

ok then so lets say that the sensors rooted, and i get another 1.(i forgot to mention he had some other guy around to check it out and he reckons it was buggered as well)
do i have to run another pickup from somewhere else (like the crank pulley) to know where TDC is? I was gunna get him to use the coil packs off a 7mgte but he couldn't use them apparently.so he's using some sort of bosch coils going straight to the spark plugs. oh yeah and i think its just an lt8 (not an ltx8).

u dont have to modify anything

if yr microtech is made for a 20v

did u buy the microtech 2nd hand
and of what engine if u did

first check the basics like fuel and spark

ive never seen a dizzy fail in a 20v

Nope i bought it brand new.
The guy thats doin it has dun plenty of westfields with 20vs in them so he knows what he is doing.fuel and spark are fine, although the high pressure pump i gave him in the first place didn't give enough pressure so he used a VL pump instead.
I'll just try and source another whole distributor and see what happens with that.
