home turbo rebuild? Sat, 20 December 2003 04:05 Go to next message
remember i said i had 2 x ct20, well stripped em both picked the best bearing etc comepletly cleaned up, spottless.. and now I have put it back togeither, couple of concerns tho.

it now spins extremely freely, as in give it a decent spin with your fingers and it will continue doing 5-6 rotationa where as before it would stop very quickly.

2nd, are the journel bearings ment to be a very tight fit into the housing or do the journing bearings spin a little also?

really u should get it done professionally
the centre turbines need to be balanced

if they arent
they could do alot of damage if they let go at 150000 rpm on the turbo

so spendin 500 on a turbo is nothing compared to 3000 on an engine

Yep, provided both the turbine and comp wheels have no damage on them (ie weigh the same as when they were last balanced), if you haven't marked the balance for the comp wheel, when reassembling they will need to be balanced professionally. Most workshop won't want to do it without installing new bearings and seals any way. Reassembling without knowing the balance will be like driving around with unbalanced road wheels - only worse and more expensive for the turbo!

Embarassed Stop!, ..., I'm blushing! Shocked Laughing

Put the turbos to one side you can still use parts from them to resurrect other CT20's with minor problems if you find one, for example, with a damaged comp wheel.
