Hands up for a 'rebuild weekend'?! (21/22 Feb '04) Sun, 21 December 2003 14:49 Go to next message
That's it guys... after a lot of thought and planning, the rebuilt 3S-GTE engine will be going into my RAV4 very soon. All I have to do is find a place to stash the front-cut while the engine gets rebuilt in January. All I need here is just one volunteer with a little bit of space (pref. undercover).

Once the engine has been rebuilt, I'm going to need as much help as humanly possible in swapping my old 3S-FE stocker for a modded 3S-GTE with different computer, etc. Some of the things that will be required to reassemble into my ride are:

- new 3S-GTE sump. I've been told by Toyota that mine won't hold enough oil to do a straight swapover.

- switch gearbox end-housing from mine to the ST205 box.

- maybe using a Hilux rear diff to better suit the different gear ratios.

- swap out half-shafts, bearings and CV boots for stronger alternatives (to be advised)

- wiring up new gauges, turbo timer, etc.

- other things that will spring up in due course... Rolling Eyes

If it's at all possible, I'd like to TRY and get most of these things installed over a weekend. So I've planned 2 months in advance. Ideally, I'd like to have as many people working with me on this as possible, and somewhere to do it with a barbie as well. I'll provide the meat and beers for the day. Very Happy If I don't get much interest in this project, then I'd like to have as many of those who know about 3S-GTE engines / ST205 drivetrains as possible.

Over 2 years I've been planning this conversion (as well as the rest of the car), and here is where I need the MOST help. If you can help out here, please come up with ideas for a venue for the weekend so it can run as smoothly as possible.

Thanks in advance guys... cheers. Wink

I've already ordered the 3S-GE engine and the 3S-GTE Japanese supplement from Toyota, which will run me $160 for the privilege. Wish you'd have told me about your manual two weeks ago...

Rob, due to my dire lack of premises, tools and equipment (I'd need your entire toolbox!!), I decided to enlist help in getting it fully rebuilt (ie. match-ported, balanced, blue-printed, etc.), as well as getting the exhaust made up and fitted, new mudflaps put on and even an aluminium shroud for the CAI. Shocked

If you're coming along to the next Dyno Day, hopefully you'll get to see a RAV/GT4 hybrid. Very Happy Thanks for your help.
