How to remove strut

Hey guys,
Dunno if this is a simple question or not, cos I'm not looking at it, but how do you remove a strut? It's all been removed from the car as one whole piece with the engine and cross-member, but we need to remove the struts themselves...how? 
Probably simple, but I'm not looking at it so I need an explanation

What sort of car are we talking about? Just undo all the bolts you think is necessary you cant go wrong, just dont undo the nut at the top of strut unless you wanna lose a limb or 2
