Pedders

Has anyone had any experience with Pedder's suspension shops? Got quoted $1200 for 4 new shock absorbers, 4 new springs and a wheel alignment. I assume they have quality product and workmanship etc? Any input appreciated.

It has been covered many times before. 98% of Pedders shocks are actually made by Monroe, but to their 'specs'.
Knowing ex-employees of Monroe, their quality is lacking, and they are suited to family cars (where most of them end up). As much as I bag Ford, Monroe apparently lost the contract to supply them for their cars.
QED
Recommendation : Save a bit more and buy some quality like KYB or even better still, Koni.
Cheers

Yep, I'd be running, yelling and screaming in the opposite direction! Think about it, maximum of $300 for springs, $400 for shocks, and $50 for a wheel alignment. That means their labour is worth around $150/hr given the job will take around 3 hours if they cruise along???? Not worth it in my opinion for effectively standard springs and shocks, and probably a wheel alignment that could be better done elsewhere!

Thanks guys. Got the same kind of reaction from other people too. Can anyone recommend a decent suspension place in Sydney?

Pittwater Brake and Clutch. ![Smile](images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif)
They also do suspension as far as I know. They are one of the Toymods sponsors. Look them up and give them a call.

Have you thought about doing it yourself, it is a straight forward job and easily done with moderate tools and abilities? Personally I'd recommend Lovells or KMAC springs over KYB shocks for a good result, and with the money you save, you could also look at a set of sway bars to round the package off nicely.

KYB's will make you happier - much better quality than pedders
King springs should have a progressive spring to suit your needs, and from everyone i knwo thats used them theve been pleased with the results.
both should be cheaper than what pedders cost you - if not - not much more ..
i know whiteline do a " kit " for the ae82 - maybe they do one for yours ?
my gt4 "kit" cost me $1800, for konis , lowered progressive springs, swaybars, bushes + a fancy sticker or two
The stickers were the best bit ( laugh )

pedders are a rip off for shocks and stuff
the store i got all my bushes done at did a good job considering my car was so hard to find stuff for.. but they quoted me 1200 for low kingsprings.. pedders shocks and a wheel allignment ... went to beaurepairs who quoted me 1200 for king springs lows, KYB shocks and wheel allignment.. unfortunately theres no kyb's left for my car in aus so they did the exact same as pedders deal for 950 dollars (king springs, pedders shocks and wheel allignment) and im waiting on my kyb shocks which they said they would put all 4 in for me for 125 bucks
so i recomment beau repair stores(though this one might just have friendly people, i dont know.)

Yeah. I would recommend doing it yourself as well. I have replaced a number of springs/shocks, and it really isnt that hard. A job for one or two nights after work.

The previous owner got his(my) suspension from pedders, and they put in springs which were almost an inch shorter than the distance between the wishbones when sitting on stoppers.
When I got the car I needed to get it raised to get past rego, and then they suggested lowering it again, put the same springs back in. At no stage did they mention the springs were dangerously low!! My current mechanic removed them (without spring compressors if I recall correctly) and put some king's in, more than happy with those. The handling is awesome, it looks better (less ricey), and the ride is a hell of a lot smoother.

oh yeah like when. heehee you mean you have watched ME do it.. ![Very Happy](images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif)
Pittwater gives discounts for Toymods I think? yeah they do.. they have a banner ad on the forums here. I would do it myself personally. On your car it would only take you 4 hours at worst with a decent compressor.
