Switching Strut Sides (left on right, right onto left)

What does everyone think of switching strut sides, I mean putting the strut that originally came on the front left onto the front right (and front right onto the front left)?
This will put the caliper at the front of the strut (not the rear as originally designed), which in my case will allow it to clear the steering arms (I hope). The other option is getting the correct steering arms (SA63's, which I didn't take with the struts and fitting them, which is a fair bit of work :S)
Also another question does anyone know if MX62 Shocks will fit SA63 / RA65 etc struts?
Cheers

i think switching struts could work, as long as you make sure you still got the bleeder nipple for the caliper up the top (obviously), but i spose the only way to know for sure is to try it. when i was putting my struts back in my car i accidently put them in the wrong sides and they all bolted up fine till i went to bolt up the calipers, so i think it will work.
dunno bout the shocks, as long as the thread for the top of the shock is the same (im assuming they are inserts) so that it will fit into the upper spring craddle you should be ok as long as the shock physically fits in the housing. if its too long it wont work but if its too short you can add spacers in the bottom like i did.

Both shocks are externally same size in few millimeters. MX-63 shock just has bit longer stroke.

swapping the struts is a common trick on dattos, where 240K struts are used, the 240K twin spot calipers foul on the steering arms. swapping (L to R) and (R to L) is an easy fix and using 200B flexible hoses solves the extra length required.
one would assume a corolla would be equally as interchangeable, considering the whole 'J' car concept was brought about around this time. just find some longer hoses out of something that parts are interchangeable off (celica? corona? KE70?).

I could hug you right now! Exactly what I needed to hear! Now I can go and get the MX62 KYB's knowing they will fit the SA63 struts (correct?) ! Sweet!
Also, how does a car manufacture decide were to put the brake caliper lol, I've been looking at different cars recently and each brand / make / year is almost different! Some are on the front of the hub, others on the rear, some are above the middle of the disk, some are below (whether the caliper is in front of behind!). Anyone spread any light on this?

I had MX63 inserts in my TT132 struts. Fitted nice.

Check the link!
Measure MX63 insert if you have one out of the car. Measure the stroke especially.
BTW. I dont know is there Australian engineering involved?

I will give money to the policeman that can pick the different struts
Don't suppose you know the stroke of MA61 shocks?

Just thought I'd let everyone know that they went on fine with the left on the right and the right on the left
