Okay, I read somewhere on here that with twin side draught Solex carbies you can't just slam your foot down and expect power, you have to feed it in slowly.

I'm not a genius at each type of sidedraught carby, but I'm mechanically minded enough to understand if someone explains, I was wondering why this might be and what can be done to overcome the problem, if it actually is a problem, or someone just made it up (which I'm assuming they didn't)?

I am hoping this problem can be tuned out. On a normal carbie, if you get a bit of a dead spot when you floor it, generaly the accelerator pump is not doing its job to squirt enough fuel in there during that otherwise lean moment when the throttle opens and the airspeed is still slow. If the fuel level is right, and the jets are about the right sizes, then maybe the accel. pump diaphrams are not perfect, or the pump nozzles are not squirting right. The book shows the fuel "injection" as suirting 3 jets out of each nozzel, or perhaps a spray. Mine are just doing a single wee each right into the head. Maybe a spray would be more effective. Also note, the timing of the accelerator pump is adjustable with a thread on the linkage. This should be adjusted so the fuel is squirted with any movement of the throttle through the whole range, other wise you will get a flat spot. Note that you also have duration springs on the accelerator pump linkages, and the book notes a time the squirt should last. Also, the accelerator nozzles are different for the front 2 and the back 2 cylinders, as they point at a slightly different angle to ain into the head.

jonny wouldn't a spray be more effective ie: if the fuel is sprayed/atomised it would mix better with air as it enters the chambers rather than a straight jet of fuel going in there - bearing in mind the airspeed also a spray would be better to mix rather than a puddle of fuel just being blasted in there?

just a thought?

Yes exactly. So how are you going to make the spray? You would need new nozzles.

Johnny2TG - which "book" exactly are you talking about? I've read lots of material on tuning some systems, but not really a great deal on Solexes, or any particular carbies for that matter.
