2tg head flow vs 3tg

In thread "2t-g + 3tg-teu turbo and injection bits" the issue of 2tgte head flow vs 3tgte was raised by TE-72 Turbo (Phil)
"Has anyone actually got any sort of proof that the 2TG heads are a better design than the 3TGTEU's? Almost everyone has this "I heard" approach about the 2 heads, but i'd love to see some figures to support this. There are plenty of 3TGTEU's out there making in excess of 300hp without a problem."
Yeh me too. Can anyone tell me how head flow is measured? Is there anyone in Australia competent to do this? I mean if your going to have ports enlarged and meticulously polished at great expense you would want to know that it is going to make a measurable difference. After spending hundreds of bucks on it of course you would notice the difference wouldn't you Yeh sure every little bit counts but at what $/hp ratio?
In anycase with forced induction aren't head flow issues between 2t-g and 3t-g a matter of boost?

i dunno if you have already seen this celica, but it is the only proof i could find on the internet that suggests a 2TG head would flow better than a 3TGTE head. The only real difference between the two heads is the twin spark on the 3TGTE, which is only there for emission problems/complete combustion.

PS interesting to note the quote -" Many pistons later and a few crappy time slips it was upgraded to a hybrid engine", which kinda suggests that the 2TG head reduces the chances of killing pistons thru excess boost/detonation.

that and the fact it was run by an early MR2 computer (thus a 4AGE computer - interesting)

did the upgrade to a 'hybrid' engine include a change to stronger pistons perhaps?

Phil,
Ryan and I actually exchange emails on a very irregular occasion. His internals are far from stock with Forged pistons and Custom Rods.
Head is Stock 2TG tho and yeilded considerable improvement. Keep in mind stock 2TG cams and 3TGTE cams are very different !
Rumour has it that the 2TG head flow is better due to the shape of the compustion chamber. The 3TGTE has 2 spark plugs in there as oppossed to one which causes twice the interferance to the airflow. This is just urban info I have seen no real proof for this.
Mind you I have heard the statement re the 2TG head being better from several people who's oppinions I respect.
If for some reason I was building a Turbo T series I'd be using the 2TG head !
Would love to see a real life comparrison of STOCK heads !
