KE70 sedan with 4A-GE conversion

I am on the market for a first car and have settled on a KE70 corolla sedan. Knowing that it comes with the carby 4K engine, its power output will become pretty boring quick. This has lead me to wonder what other engines will go in. I have had a look around and i think the black top 4A-GE (from AE86) would fit well and have enough power to keep me happy. What sort of mods would i need to get this engine to fit and would i be able to get it approved (its a 1983 car). Any help would be great.

try a search this has been covered, but an ae71 crossmember and t50 and pedal box from same, followed by all emissions from a ae82 corolla applied to your ke70 should see you ok.
i'd sway towards an ae71 reather than ke70. its already got the 4A and T50 ect so all you do is replace the 4A with 4AGE

KE70 IS an AE70/71, the only differnce is engine and gearbox pretty much,. they are identical bodies.
Cya, Stewart
ps IRA11Y is doing just that conversion atm.

i think your a little confused with the 4age variants, black top (and silvertop) refer to the 20V variety of 4a's and are not as simple a swap as the other 4a's. you will most likely use the engine out of a AE82 corolla (blue top) or AE92 (red top) which have 86 and 100KW's respectively. you could use the sprinter 4age (also blue top) which has 96KW but it will be slightly harder to find however will make the conversion a little easier.
