GT Four Pricing

I was just wondering if anyone knew how much the GT Fours were new...
Glass Guide staff are under the belief that the Group A Rallye was exactly the same price as standard GT Four and will not give me a proper valuation... only one based on the standard model GT Four.
I wanted to get a valuation so as I could bump my insurance up to an "Agreed Value" instead of the standard "Market Value" and these B4574RD5 are making it difficult.
My car is an ST185 Group A Rallye (Aus delivered)

This is a copy of the email I received from the Glass Guide staff...
We have that vehicle listed as a Toyota Celica GT-4 Turbo 2D Liftback. There is a note on that model that there was the Group A Rallye pack released in 1991 with 150 imported - but as they were the same price as the standard GT-4 to buy retail we don't have a specific model pricing for them.
Your best bet is to use the pricing for the GT-4 Turbo as after 12 years it will be approximately the same.

aint no expert but from what i have seen
gt4s start @ 10k thru to about 18
grp a's start at about 17 and go thru to about 24
i definetly wouldnt say they are the same value
grp a's are the way to go the standard gt4s are pretty slow

Yeah I know what they are currently going for... but I wanted to know what the original RRP was for them so as I could smack it to the Glasses staff

hehe - sorry oz but im gunna have to disagree with you - Standard Gt4's ( like mine ) aint that slow compared to group A's - theres a Bee's whisker in performance - ie about 5 KW total between stock gt4 and stock group a ( for the 185's anyway )
In fact with a little boosted assistance mine was more pokey than a number of St185 group A's - as was DavGT4's red st185 - though im not surte if he has a boosty controller.
the only ones that beat us on the day were two 205 wrcs.
the 205's were REAL weapons but you wont see them under 30K in decent condition - especially the oz delivered WRC ones like gary's
As for prices - retail for a st185 is anywhere between 10k to 14K depending on condition - i got ine for 11 with a few slight mods - but in very clean order otherwise ( was listed at 12.5 in the trady )
Group a st185's ive seen go between 16k to 22K of late ..
St165's seem to be between 7 - 11.5K.

Thanks guys... I phoned Toyota today and they are going to get back to me with the RRP's for these cars...
The standard GT4 is definately an excellent vehicle and from factory the Group A does not have that much of a jump on the standard, however, the Group A comes with a few things that will assist in future:
-Water to Air Intercooler
-Quick shiftin' gearbox
-Better flowing front bar (big airdam)... Good for frontmounts
-ABS Brakes (good when driving around Sydney)
-Water sprays
Looks like you're trying to make a Group A anyway classique ( :
In hindsight it would probably be more cost effective to buy a standard gt4 and add mods but I'm lazy and I like having the "limited" feel of the Group A
PS Toyota don't have the figures easily available (they just looked up red book too) hopefully they will get back to me with the real RRP's... the figure $45460 did come up... but thats just what www.redbook.com.au says

thats all good and said
if you want the " limited edituion " factor - the group a is the go - plus all the good shits alrrealy there to play with
THOUGH in hindsite - when i was in the market for a grp A st185 - they were close to 20 K
ive so far spent maybe 4 and a half K on my Gt4 - with another 2 K on the way - and ill have a machine that will outstrip a Group A in performance - and only lack the gearbox
and thats including the purchases of all the " group a " body trimmings and intercooler
If i had the extra cash at the time though - i wouldnt have hesitated in buying the group a - just the one i got came up at a very good price for the shape it was in
Just as a addative - if you were in ther market for a true " classic " gt4 - the Group A is the go ..
if you want the performance path of upgrading its nearly worth saving your $$'s for just a standard st185 and modding from there ..
Considering what ive so far had done to mine - its working out reasonably cheap - See shopping list below - minus group A gearbox

It'll be nice to see how the Wolf goes in the GT-Four classique... make sure you keep us posted on that one!
Hope to see a few more GT-Four owners at the Toyota Nationals this year!!!

well if all goes to plan it will be set up to go directly into the group A's - they swap the afm to a map sensor at the same time + will have to make allowances for the W to A intercooler
Sounds pretty sweet though time will tell and testing
