I'm putting in this 3S-GTE engine and it occurred to me that the radiator might either have to be re-cored or replaced altogether. Is this the case? The front-cut I've bought doesn't have a radiator on it, so I'm a bit stuck for ideas of what should be replaced. Should the radiator core be thicker than the stock 3S-FE or is the stock thickness good enough for the job? Also I'll be putting on an engine oil cooler and maybe a gearbox oil cooler. Will these be worth it for my conversion?

As always, all input very much appreciated.

Smile

Going from an N/A engine to a turbo motor i would be upgrading the rad from stock. If its single core go for two,if its got twin core go for three.
An engine oil cooler may not be needed but you won't know till its all in and running but couldn't hurt to use one with a thermostat or bypass set-up like on crowns where only a small amount of oil goes thru the cooler then back into the sump.
Gear box cooler would be a waste of money if you are on a budget as the only cars that seem to have them are supercars or racecars.I can't see the box would get overly hot.
I might be wrong on the above but thats what i would do if it was my project.

Size of cooling hardware is determined a LOT by how/where you drive it. If you give the thing a decent workout, then an engine oil cooler is pretty much an essential product, and the trans oil cooler is advisable. As for radiator size, a lot of the time a little bit of work rerouting water pipes, as well as improving airflow, can mean that you will successfully cool powerful engines with amazingly small radiators. Remember, if it's like a classic old school engine (e.g. worked 351, 5 core rad) and boils when you're only at the lights, you've SURE done SOMETHING wrong! Evil or Very Mad

Ok so I was going to go for a twin-core radiator and the smallest gearbox oil cooler, as well as the next size up engine oil cooler. Anyone know where I can get decent brands at good prices for each of these?

Thanks heaps. Very Happy
