Hi there
just like to share my last weekend trip to melbourne....
well driving from adelaide to melbourne for a big weekend in melbourne with the mates, i was caught speeding twice and received two parking tickets!! Unbeleiveable. Well doing 139 in VICS very slow 100 highway zones was duely deserved, but 65 in a 60 zone is pure crap!
The parking tickets: Well the first ticket was from leaving my car in the parking zone after the meter expired. Thats worth $50. So i decided to leave the car there for the next day. Come back the next day, and there's another ticket on it! Another 50 bucks! The offence was for parking longer than indicated. But however, the ticket said i was parked in zone 3, this is wrong i was parked in zone 5, just like the first ticket.
Can i take this up to them and say u stuffed it up!
Well all up the total fines add up to $485. Could've flown 1st class!!
Damn that.....

Could of been worse They could of clamped your wheels or towed your car And they're real slow pricks when it comes to letting you get your car out of the impound or getting somone to unclamp your wheels

AFAIK, you're allowed 10% error on your speedo, so they actually can't book you for this. Read up on the ADRs, there's one that states speedos are allowed 10% error. Then take it to court.

Max, They dont have to give the 10% if they think you were just ignoring the limit! So it really comes down to the cop! But you can take it to cought and argue and most likly get off! Very difficult though!

Hey cheers for the 10% advice there, i'll check that 1 up. I was actually caught in Ararat for that 65 case and just on the VIC side of the border for the other one, near Kaniva.
All up it gave my friends a good laugh, wouldn't let them laugh again though:/
Considering thes are my first ever tickets after 3 yrs of trashing cars, i'm preety pleased. Just annoyed it all happened in 1 weekend. Perhaps my next 3 yrs will be scott free, ha.

Just read tonight that VIC only has a 3km/hr tolerance - 4km/hr over the limit and they book you the bastards.

I copped a 65 dollar parking fine for not putting 60c in the parking meter. The shit part is the coin slot was filled with chewing gum, and i still got fined.

Max - I think that essentially the speed limit is the legal limit & they can book you for anything over it if they want to. It's then up to you to appeal it in court if you think you'll get off based on the ADRs..
For this reason, minor breaches of the speed limit would barely be bothered with by Police..

Manny - I remember hearing about that a few months back too. I think at the time they were actually talking about introducing a zero tolerance policy.. Bet that would do wonders for their revenue. Meanwhile there would probably be accidents all over the place 'cos people are spending more time watching their speedo's than the road, for fear of being booked doing only a couple of hours of the limit..

GIN51E, I got pulled over for 70 in a 50 zone on my Ls and the excuse that the speedo was stuffed didn't go down too well with the cop. Told me to get it fixed etc etc. Let me off. But yeah, that excuse is no good. My speedo used to say I was doing 100 when I was doing 50 etc. If yours is doing that sort of thing, pull the cable out and give it a good clean. Box oil tends to go up the cable and onto the back of the speedo head.

i was driving around for 4 months as my speedo cable was broken but got a new one a month ago but still doesn't work very well thats why i used the GPS and worked out what gear at what revs is what speed that way i know i'm doing the right limit as if its in a certain gear at a certain amount of revs its always goesing to be the same speed, never look at my speedo anymore.
