I didn't even realise there was a new winamp out there, but got it today. Runs much, much quicker then the stylish but dissapointing winamp3, and so far I haven't had any wierdness/crashes with it. The default skin with it is also super sly, and I don't think I'll be needing to get any other ones for a helluva long time.

Anyone elses opinions?

Pity it uses like 10 times the amount of RAM than v2.81 (which I am still running). I still reckon 2.81 is the fastest, least buggiest version released so far.

I don't use Winamp very often, but I've got v2.9 installed for when I do.

get 2.9 if you still like the 2.x series. The Media Library is awesome. I reckon the 2.9 Media Library was heaps better then the media library in 3.x

I'm still running 2.76, and now that I'm using my Asus NForce 5.1 onbaord soundcard, my sub is no longer working
Will any program fix that?

(it doesnt work in WinDVD, or any games thus far)

so it doesnt work at all with the onboard?
are you sure the onboard is 5.1?
is everything connected correctly?
does the driver software have a test program?
try updating the drivers, and try the speakers again on a computer that you know works 5.1, if its definately the onboard ditch it and get a audigy 2 Cool

The fronts work all the time, the rears work in GTA Vice City, and the centre works for speech in DVDs, but the sub never works

Yes, 100%
Quote:

Yes, its one of those, LINE IN, becomes rear, MIC IN, become centre/sub, and its connected correctly

Not that I'm aware of, but i'll have a looksee tomoz

If I was going to spend that much money on a sound card I would be getting an M-Audio Revolution.

Oh, and the person who suggested foobar2k is on the mark, awesome program. Simple and powerful. Smile

I can attest to this card. Cheap and plenty powerful for most people

I run 2.80 - never have any problems, so why worry? Smile

although the media library of 2.90 has piqued my curiosity

Winamp 5 definately has a better sound to it...

But then again Winamp 2 was the best ever (the plugins & visualisations in 3 sucked arse)

And I don't think Winamp 5 really takes up that much memory and takes up very little process... 18Mb on my system but this is dependant on MP3 size etc. and runs at 1% process or less on my system (dependant on processor obviously)

The included plugins are pretty shit though... get some old Winamp 2 plugins (e.g. Tripex, Fantasia, Geiss)

the media library in 2.9 is a very, very good reason to upgrade. As I said before, the 2.9 library is better then the 3.x library. The 5.x library is the best evolution tho. I wish I could move my playlists from my 2.9 library to 5.x tho...

Actually, if you use the ASIO or Kernel Streaming plugins there should be stuff-all difference between Winamp 2.x, 5 or foobar2k.
