Hi Guys,
Thought I'd rebuild the r154 I have before putting it in my project.I have heard that they are prone to breaking the first gear thrust washer in high power applications and that a modified landcruiser thrust is used. Has anyone out there done this mod. Got a price from toyota the other day for the parts to do a rebuild (sincro rings, bearings, gasket kit.)came to about $1100. Is there anywhere to get these parts cheaper.
Thanks in advance.

i did some research into rebuilding these gearboxes (w58 actually but it's all the same effectivly) i worked for a part wholesaler for a few weeks covering for a guy who was away, and some of my deliveries was to gearbox rebuilders - i asked them if you could get the parts from anywhere else - basically 5th gear synchro is available aftermarket (woo-hoo!!) and some of the bearings you can source (only a couple) the majority of parts has to come from toyota only - and the price you quoted of $1100 is about right i'm afraid

Have a chat to "Wastegate", he's rebuilt his R154 twice and he knows all about the thrust washer thing.
