What flavour of 4AGE engine is this?

Hi guys,
This engine is supposed to be the SX (100kW smallport I think) from a 92 'rolla SX. Can anyone confirm/deny this as I have had some suspicions because it has TVIS.
Here are the pics:

I'de say its either a bigport blue top 86kw , or a bigport red top 88kw.
The 100kw redtops did not have TVIS.

Looks like a bigport 86kw motor to me. Might have a 100kw bottom end though. from those pics i cant notice, but thats a bigport intake manifold so i assume its at least got a bigport head

Yeah, I dunno whether the engine builder kept the bigport head and that's all. It's actually a bit of a franky. The original engine was rebuilt with bits from the SX I mentioned. Also has 256 degree cams and a shaved head. NFI how much power it is putting out. Any other clues as to what my franky truly is anyone?

Just reading some general stuff on PF and came across this:
Quote: |
* Engine transplants in Twin Cams; if there's blue raised writing on the valve-cover it's the '86 to Oct '87 engine, with red writing it's the Nov '87 onwards. If it's all black, it's an import or AE92 engine. The blue-writing version is the torquiest, the black has more maximum power on ULP.

Right/Wrong? Could the TVIC induction thingo be left over from the original twinky motor and the cam cover/majority of the rest of the engine be from the SX?
Don't quite know if I'm being screwed here.

The bigport throttle body gives it away as having a bigport head.
It may have the same block as the 100kw smallport , but hey the 4afe had the same block also. The colour of the rocket cover and such wont change the fact that it has a 86/88kw bigport head. The smallport makes the "extra" power from its small ports and plenum chamber and the bigport intake manifold will not fit onto a smallport 100kw head.
So what you have there is a bigport 86/88kw, not a smallport 100kw

looking at the connectors and coil/ignitor i'd say you've got a early type there....notwithstanding that if its been built up with cams and 7 rib bottom end might be a good look in - i've driven one of these in an mr2 with the 100kw bottom end and big port head and it was stunning.

Its a mix and match motor to me. I'm assuming the motor is from a japanese Corona. With a fwd tvis intake on it. Its the same motor as mine. they come plain alloy finish. Well thats what i've been informed anyway.

If you like the extractors, you'd LOVE the race cams. They sound absolutely animal when they come on.

You'll have to take a pic of the block itself ... does it look like this (ie. 7 rib block)?

I have an early ae92 4age with big port head/TVIS and 7 ribs block. Are they any good? looking at the various specs on the net it seem to be making less power than a blue top
anyone have one in their car? how does it goes compare to a blue top?

I'll let you all know as soon as the engine goes in ...
Still, mine's had some work done on it so I guess you can't compare its performance with just a stock one that's travelled x00,000 km's ...
